Alaska Airlines has implemented a “Peace of Mind” travel waiver for tickets purchased between 2/27 and 3/12 for travel until June 1, 2020. Personally, I would like to see Alaska extend this good will to anyone who purchased travel until 6/1/2020 regardless of when they purchased. It would extend an enormous amount of goodwill, and it’s not a full refund anyhow. Embedded in the waiver it stipulates that an Alaska credit will be deposited in your wallet to be used on a future Alaska flight. That credit will expire 12/31/2020.
While I understand travelers purchasing tickets now have more knowledge of the Corona outbreak, it doesn’t assuage the anxiety of those who purchased months ago to travel during this same timeframe. The doubts are the same whether you knew in advance of the risk or not. It’s also worth noting that Change and Cancellation fees are waived for MVP Golds and MVPG75s regardless.
A look at the details:
- System wide on Alaska operated flights ( no partners )
- tickets beginning with 027
- Between now and 3/12/2020
- One time change/cancellation with the ticket price deposited into your wallet
- this is not a refund to your cc, etc
- New itinerary can be booked at a different, but will be at market price, which may require more money
