Get up to 50% off at Amazon by using 1 Amex Point!

Yep, you read that right! You can get as much as 50% off your Amazon purchase by using a single American Express Membership Rewards. This is a targeted offer that recurs seemingly every quarter, so if you’re not targeted this go around, keep checking, it’s always rotating. Lemme walk you through how it works and where you can see if you’re targeted.

There are multiple offers on this round:

  • My wife’s account was targeted for 40% back and $40 max,
  • My account got just 10% or $10
  • Readers getting 50% up to $80

Note that most accounts have no preset limit on the number of points they need to use, and therefore you can use just a single points, but some are starting to see minimums.

Make sure your Amazon Account is linked to your Amex card

This is only valid for Amex cardholders that earn Membership Rewards and you need to make sure your account is a payment option. If it isn’t, you may need to wait 24 hours for the offers to start populating.

Ok, my account is linked…who qualifies for this offer?

This deal is targeted meaning not everyone is going to have an offer in their Amazon account.

On top of that, it’s only targeted to Amex cardholders who earn Membership Rewards… so if your card earns MR you’re good to go, if it earns Marriot, Hilton, Delta, etc you don’t.

This offer recurs and I’ve seen additional accounts get targeted throughout the promo period, and even some accounts will use the offer and they will get targeted again. So keep checking throughout the promo period.

We keep 10 American Express Cards listed below and always publish the best offers regardless if we make a commission. You can learn more about these cards and the best offers via the links below.

Go here to see if you’re targeted to receive up to 50% off your Amazon order by using as little as 1 Amex Point, capped at $80

The best part of this deal is that there usually isn’t a minimum amount of points you need to use to trigger the 10% to 40% discount. However, we have seen some accounts impose a minimum so your mileage may vary as shown below.

This is why only a single Amex Point can yield you this Amazon offer. This is a limited offer and expires at 06/30/24 or when 30,000 people have used the offer. The button will disappear when that happens. Make sure you read the terms and conditions below, but these are the main things to keep an eye on in my opinion:

  • MUST BE SHIPPED AND SOLD BY AMAZON!
    • Other vendors will not trigger the credit
  • Must use at least a single Membership Reward to make it work
  • The credit is applied before taxes and fees
  • Ends 06/33/24 at 11:59pm PST and is capped at up to $80
    • Or when 30000 people have used the offer…the button will disappear
    • The cap will vary depending on your offer

You can use this to buy my book!

Big thing to pay attention to: it needs to say “Sold by Amazon”

The biggest thing to note here…”SOLD BY AMAZON.COM”

At check out – you’ll want to apply a single Amex Point

After you apply the point, You’ll see this reflected in both your order and summary before you pay for it. Note that taxes are not included in the discount. Take a look at your order summary and you should see the discount applied

Don’t forget to check for Amex Offers

My account was targeted for 5x at Amazon, up to 2500 points. This would be a great time to stack that offer.

Are other programs targeted aside from Amex?

Yep, and you can check their offers right here:

We keep an up to date spreadsheet that lists the best ever offers: You can find that spreadsheet here.

Historically 80k is a very, very good offer and hit in both 2022 and 2023. In 2021, we saw the offer hit an all time high of 100k. Who knows if that will ever come back.

Main Cast:

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Supporting Cast:

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® is exceptional starter card and offers transferrable Ultimate Rewards, and pairs well with other Chase cards.

If you carry this card alongside Chase’s cashback cards like the Chase Freedom Flex℠and Chase Freedom Unlimited® or the business versions: Ink Business Cash® , Ink Business Unlimited® you can combine the points into Preferred account and transfer into hotel and airline partners

Annual fee is quite low at $95 a year + you get a 10% anniversary bonus on points + $50 hotel credit in Chase travel.

    American Express Gold: https://americanexpress.com/en-us/referral/KENNYB08Yx?XLINK=MYCP

The Gold card is currently offering a 60,000 sign up bonus after $6,000 spent in 6 months.

I find the gold card to be most useful for food purchases, earning 4x points at restaurants and grocery stores while the platinum card is better for airline purchases and some hotels (as long as the hotels are booked in the American Express portal) earning 5x points. You can recover almost all of the annual fee for the gold card $240 of the $250 if you take advantage of the monthly credits from food delivery and Uber. I like to accumulate additional Amex points by using shopping portals like Rakuten.
