It’s a monthly thing
What’s the real price of an American Airlines award mile? The cheapest we’ve seen them is roughly 1.7 cents. That is a fantastic deal. This new “sale”, to start off the new year, isn’t terrible, but it’s not entirely a great deal. At 2.1 cents it provides a decent value proposition for those who are short on points, but if you don’t have an immediate use of the miles, I’d wait and see what comes around in the next few months.
The 50k bonus kicks in at 100k miles purchased – ringing in at 2.1 cents
When should you buy miles?
Here are 3 times when buying miles can make absolute sense
- Shoring up your account for a flight/flights
- Awards are available and you buy miles cheaper than you could purchase the ticket
- Using points for an upgrade, but lack the miles
When shouldn’t you buy miles
- You have no clear use of the miles and it’s a purely speculative purchase
