Amex 15% transfer bonus to Avianca LifeMiles

American Express not only has a great list of transfer partners, it also frequently incentivizes transfers to those partners with bonuses. Until 11/30/24, you can enjoy a 15% transfer bonus to Avianca Lifemiles.  I have used Lifemiles many times in the past and the transfers have always been instantaneous and this is on Avianca’s end not Amex.

Unfamiliar with Avianca’s Lifemiles program…you’re probably not alone

Avianca became an Amex transfer parter in 2018 and provides excellent access points to Star Alliance award inventory. You can also use them on AeroMexico and Iberia.

Should you transfer?

Personally, I would take advantage of this if you know that there is a trip that you want to take. If not…I wouldn’t transfer your very valuable Amex points to Avianca simply to get a 15% bonus.

Here’s a look at Avianca’s redemptions worth paying attention

Stack with Avianca LifeMiles+ Subscription

  • 10% back on all Star Alliance award bookings
  • No fees when you change or cancel

The cheapest plan starts at $20 per month and nets your 6k miles over the course of a year; however, if you use LifeMiles very often, this could be quite attractive since you won’t be stuck paying $150 fees when you want to change/cancel a booking and you’d net 10% back on flights.

I put the taxes and fees on my American Express Platinum card to earn 5x points

It’s a great benefit of the charge card and can quickly accumulate points when booking direct with the airline.

Analysis

If you’re looking to make an award redemption in the near future…this could be a great time to make use of the program and achieve your travel aspirations at lower prices! If not..I wouldn’t pull the trigger.

I’m seeing 90,000 points! Try the link in Incognito mode on Google Chrome, and hopefully you’ll find the same offer. If you don’t see the 90,000 point offer on the first try in Incognito, try to paste the link again.

Planning a trip to London in June. Would you take advantage of this transfer bonus and book flights now or wait for another offer and/or redemption rates to decrease? I need 4 tickets so the cost of travel won’t be cheap – looking to maximize my point value.

When you recently booked ANA with LifeMiles, did you select your seats soon afterwards? How did you get the ANA PRN?

I’ve been following your ANA flight booking since the time you cancelled with them last year.

    • Miles May 5, 2021

That’s awesome! Thanks for the follow – when you get your confirmation email it has the PNR within it, you input that over at ANA manage my reservation and select seats. Super easy!

      • GBSanDiego May 5, 2021

Thank you Miles, to say the least!! This is critical information that I was not able to find anywhere. I sure didn’t want to call to get the ANA PRN.

I constantly follow your travel blog and I consider it as a major player. I myself, have been in the miles/points collecting for 5 years now.

Believe your title is wrong – “April 1.”

    • Miles May 5, 2021

      DOH! You’re absolutely right, fixed!
