5 stars. Storied History. Abbots Grange has welcomed the likes of Monet, Twain, and Oscar Wilde.

Built in the 14th Century, owned by a Titanic passenger, and brought to its current glory by an American couple, the Abbots Grange is a 5 star Bed and Breakfast in the heart of the Cotswolds designed to make your English countryside dream come true. Located in Broadway, the Abbots Grange recently won the Eviivo award for best Bed and Breakfast in the whole of England – now that is something special. From the looks of the website’s pictures, Abbots Grange not only is located in the stunning rolling hills of the Cotwolds, but it also features a bevy of modern luxuries within. Check out England’s number 1 Bed and Breakfast.

One of the guest rooms, NOT BAD FOR SOME YANKS, EH 😉

One of Frank Millet’s greatest works was painted in the Manor: Between two fires.

You can currently see Millet’s painting in the Tate Gallery in London.

The Location as described by Abbot Grange itself:

Abbots Grange is a two minute stroll from the village High Street with its wonderful selection of shops, inns and restaurants. The surrounding Cotswolds countryside offers some of the most magnificent walks in the UK including the beautiful ‘Cotswold Way’ which runs through Broadway from Chipping Campden to Bath.

What does the best Bed and Breakfast in England cost though?

I looked at a couple of random dates in November, over a weekend, and found them to be very reasonable. Price for two nights, including breakfast.

The building is recognized by the Institute of Architecture to be one of the most important and best preserved monastic manor houses.

Per the website:

Abbots Grange is the oldest dwelling in Broadway and one of the oldest domestic/monastic properties in the UK, built during the early part of the 14th Century as the summer manor for the Abbot of Pershore. The construction of the main hall and buildings was probably commissioned by Abbot William of Harvington (1307-1340).  It is considered by the Institute of Archaeology to be one of the most important and best preserved English monastic manor houses, and has a rich and fascinating history. The house is catalogued and the architecture described in Pevsners The Buildings of England.
