Just a bit of a head’s up if you’re thinking of applying for a Capital One credit card in the future…it seems as though there is a new 48 month clause that has been inserted into the bonus language – h/t ddg. Now, if you have received a new cardmember bonus on the card you’re applying for in the past 48 months, you won’t be eligible for the bonus. We have added this to our complete guide to capital one applications here.
New Capital One welcome bonus 48 month language
This can be seen on the Capital One Venture X Rewards credit card – our pick for best super premium card
How does this compare to other banks?
- Chase
- 5/24 rule
- No more than 5 new accounts added to your personal credit report in the past 24 months
- 48 month Sapphire Rule
- If you get a bonus on either a Chase Sapphire Preferred® or Chase Sapphire Reserve® in the past 48 months you are ineligible for a bonus
- 24 month rule on other cards
- 5/24 rule
- Citi
- 48 months rule
- basically the same as this new 48 month language
- 48 months rule
- Amex
- Once in a lifetime rule; however, many people say this is actually 7 years after cancellation.
Overall
Capital One has made getting new welcome bonuses a bit harder to rinse and repeat.
