Citi American Airlines Credit Card offers:

CitiBusiness® AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard® offer ends 6/5/24

Let’s take a look at the complete portfolio of Citi cards that are cobranded to earn American Aadvantage Miles and there are some really attractive offers.

  • Citi® AAdvantage® MileUp® Card
  • Citi® AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®
  • Citi® AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®
  • CitiBusiness® AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard®

I consistently advocate that your wallet should have a main and supporting cast – think of them like the cast of FRIENDS ( this article breaks that idea down ).  The main cast gets the bulk of my every day purchases and earns you flexible points you can transfer to partners.  The supporting cast gets purchases that lead to elite status, free bags, free nights, etc.  For instance, I would classify a Citi Premier ( soon to be Citi Strata Premier ) as main cast, and any of these American Airlines cobranded credit cards as supporting cast.

They can be quite helpful if you fly American a lot and want some extra benefits.

These are the primary reasons to get any these cards

  • Boost your American Airlines balance for a potential trip
  • Spend your way to American Airlines Status
  • Get free bags, board earlier
  • Get discounts onboard
  • Lounge access if you go for the  Citi Aadvantage Executive

If you don’t fly with American often or you’re not chasing American status, I would steer you towards cards that provide higher earn rates and transferrable points like the Amex Gold, Amex Platinum, Capital One Venture X, Chase Sapphire Preferred and the list of main cast cards go on.

Are you eligible to be approved and receive a bonus?

I’d read the full list of Citi Application rules here, but the one that applies to these cards the most is the 48 month rule. That means you could hold both personal AA cards, the Platinum Select and Executive, simultaneously.

48 month rule

  • If you have gotten a bonus on a particular credit card you aren’t eligible for the bonus again until 48 months have passed.

You will usually see language like this on the Citi cobranded American Airlines cards

American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles are not available if you have received a new account bonus for a Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive account in the past 48 months

Since you have to wait 48 months before getting a card again you should make sure you’re getting the best offer – so always check our spreadsheet.

This card is for those who want some American Airlines benefits but don’t want to pay an annual fee. Personally, I think the Citi®  AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard® is a better fit for most people and comes with more useful benefits under a $100 AF.

The primary reason you’d add this card to your wallet is to gain access to the Admirals Club when flying AA, JetBlue or a One World Partner, at a discount.

How’s that?

The card’s annual fee is $595, but a membership bought via AA is $650 a year. So you’re getting a nice discount. The Primary cardholder also has their membership attached to their loyalty number so you don’t even need to show your card to gain entrance. Pretty nice, really!

Both primary and authorized users can bring immediate family (partner/spouse and kids under 18 ) or two guests with you.

  • Admirals Club® membership
    • for you and up to two guests
    • immediate family members traveling with you
  • Authorized Users
    • $175 for 3 authorized users
    • $175 per AU after that
  • Credits
    • Avis or Budget car rentals every calendar year

    • Grubhub purchases
      • Up to $120 a year
      • up to a $10 statement credit each monthly billing statement
    • Lyft Credits
      • Up to $120 in Lyft credits
        • $10 Lyft credit each month
      • Caveat: must take 3 rides per month to get credit
  • Loyalty Points Bonuses

Remember to try links in incognito mode, different browsers, and/or VPN if elevated offers don’t show up the first time (for me higher points tend to show up using Firefox, Chrome or Edge in private or Incognito mode). Also try reloading multiple times if an elevated offer fails to manifest the first time. Also try opening it on safari incognito on your phone.
