Back in April The American Express® Gold Card got some updates that coincided with its 60th anniversary. You can see the updates highlighted below, but in addition to those listed, when you open your account you’ll see some targeted Amex Offers.
- Boosted Amex Travel earnings: You’ll earn 5X Amex Membership Rewards® points on prepaid hotels booked through AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel App. Previously, you’d earn 2X points on these purchases.
- Rental car status: You can enroll to receive complimentary Hertz Five Star® Status, which provides benefits such as free vehicle upgrades and 25% more points on Hertz rentals. Terms apply. Benefit enrollment and Hertz Gold+ registration are required. *Additional drivers must meet standard rental qualifications and must be a spouse or domestic partner to qualify as complimentary. Other additional drivers are subject to fees. **Benefits are subject to availability and vary by location. Additional Hertz program Terms and Conditions including age restrictions apply.
- Updated dining credit: Previously, you could earn up to $10 in monthly credits for purchases at Grubhub, The Cheesecake Factory, Goldbelly, Wine.com and Five Guys. Now, you can earn the credit at Grubhub (including Seamless), The Cheesecake Factory, Wonder, Buffalo Wild Wings and Five Guys. Enrollment is required.
Personally, the Uber One membership is a no brainer since it’s the statement credit covers a full year. You’ll need to cancel it after a year if you’re not getting value, but it’s well worth noting. Keep in mind that some of these offers expire at the end of May whereas other extend further into the year. It’s probably worth adding them to your card since it doesn’t really cost you anything.
