You can elect to earn AA miles when staying at SPG. Is it wise? Depends on what your goals are, and every situation is different. Personally I think SPG points are more valuable than AA miles, but if you’re really close to earning enough miles for a free flight, it may be worth your while. If you stay 2 nights at participating Westin, Shearton, W, etc you can earn 1000 AA miles.

Historically 80k is a very, very good offer and hit in both 2022 and 2023. In 2021, we saw the offer hit an all time high of 100k. Who knows if that will ever come back.
