What a way to start off April. Alaska announced a great non-April fool’s promo that will line your pockets with double the miles you’d ordinarily earn on select transcontinental routes. The great thing is when I think transcon, usually I associate those routes with SFO/LAX and BOS/DC/NYC. However, Alaska has included routes to Raleigh, Philly, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale as well.

If you’re planning on taking these flights and you’re an Alaska loyalist, there is no reason not to register.  Which you can do here. Alaska doesn’t offer lie flat seats like AA, Jetblue, Delta, or United so having a promotion to earn extra miles in lieu of a better cabin is smart.

I have an upcoming flight between LA and NYC and it clocks in at 2545 miles. With an MVPG bonus I would earn 5090, and add in another 2545 I’ll end up earning 7635 for that flight. Pretty awesome.

Details:

  • Must register prior to flying
  • Does not count towards Elite status
  • Must be an Alaska flight
  • Must fly between 4/1 and 12/31/2019

Here’s what you can expect on Alaska’s planes. Note the airline is pulling the Virgin cabins ( on the right ), but it’s a work in progress. If you see a transcon that features an Airbus with two rows in first class you’ll get those snazzy ex-Virgin seats which are quite preferable to the normal Alaska seats.

Here’s a list of all the routes that qualify from Alaska:

West Coast departures between:
    • Los Angeles (LAX) and Baltimore (BWI), Boston (BOS), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), New York (JFK), Newark (EWR), Philadelphia (PHL), Washington-Dulles (IAD), or Washington-Reagan (DCA)
