Last year we saw Amex add monthly statement credits to their Amex Platinum, Business Platinum, and Green cards. While they enhanced some perks on their cobranded cards ( Delta, Marriott, Hilton ) we didn’t quite see the same incentives promoted. That has all changed. And big time. My goodness, if you take advantage of these statement credits, you’ll wipe out huge portions of your annual fees. Let’s get into them. You can read the whole release here

*The big caveat is you MUST have been a cardholder as of 1/1/21 – so these only apply to those cardholders, not new ones and you must enroll through Amex Offers

First let’s take a look at the dining credits:

As long as you had your card on 1/1/21 you qualify to earn up to $220 in dining credits. Just so you remember, the annual fees on Gold, Platinum, and Reserve are currently $99, $250, and $550. If you can take advantage of these credits every month, you’re discounting your annual fee substantially ( and making money on the Delta SkyMiles Gold card )

Delta SkyMiles Amex Offers:

  • Up to $110 in dining statement credits: Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card Members can receive $10 back per month (up to 11 times).

  • Up to $165 in dining statement credits: Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card Members can receive $15 back per month (up to 11 times).

  • Up to $220 in dining statement credits: Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card Members can receive $20 back per month (up to 11 times).

Hilton Honors “Score More on Dining” Amex Offers:

One of my favorite cobranded cards on the market is the Amex Aspire. Getting $20 a month back on dining certainly helps, but how about the Hilton Surpass getting $110 – that’s currently more than the annual fee.

  • Up to $55 in dining statement credits: Hilton Honors American Express Card Members can receive $5 back per month (up to 11 times).

  • Up to $110 in dining statement credits: Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card Members can receive $10 back per month (up to 11 times).

  • Up to $220 in dining statement credits: Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card Members can receive $20 back per month (up to 11 times).

Marriott Bonvoy Amex Offers:

They continued the trend with the Marriott Bonvoy offers:

  • Up to $110 in dining statement credits: Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card Members can receive $10 back per month (up to 11 times).

  • Up to $220 in dining statement credits: Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card Members can receive $20 back per month (up to 11 times).

Amex Cobranded Business cards are getting monthly wireless credits

Remember, you need to have had your cards as of 1/1/21, but these credits last the entire year. That’s phenom.

Delta SkyMiles Offers:

As you can see below, you can earn up to $20 a month on your wireless phone bill.

  • Up to $110in Statement Credits for U.S. Wireless Telephone Services: Delta SkyMiles® Gold Business American Express Card Members can earn up to $10 back per month (up to 11 times).

  • Up to $165 in Statement Credits for U.S. Wireless Telephone Services: Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card Members can earn up to $15 back per month (up to 11 times).

  • Up to $220 in Statement Credits for U.S. Wireless Telephone Services: Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card Members can earn up to $20 back per month (up to 11 times).

Hilton Honors “Score More on Wireless” Offer:

  • Up to $110 in Statement Credits for U.S. Wireless Telephone Services: Hilton Honors American Express Business Card Members can earn up to $10 back per month (up to 11 times).

Marriott Bonvoy Offer:

  • Up to $165 in Statement Credits for U.S. Wireless Telephone Services: Marriott Bonvoy American Express Business Card Members can earn up to $15 back per month (up to 11 times).

Additional offers:

They didn’t stop with dining and wireless credits. There are additional incentives for people to consider putting more of their spend on these cobrand cards.

Delta SkyMiles Offers:

If you’re looking to hit status, I think the status boost may be of particular interest to you however A LOT of spend in required.

  • 5X Delta SkyMiles on Delta Purchases:
    • EligibleConsumer and Business Delta SkyMiles® Gold, Platinum and Reserve American Express Card Members can earn 5X miles (that’s up to 3 additional miles on top of the miles they already earn) on eligible Delta purchases through December 31, 2021.

  • Status Boost Special Offer (No enrollment required):
    • This offer is also available to new Card Members who apply and are approved for the Card through 2021.

    • Delta Reserve Card Members can earn 18,750 MQMs each time they spend $30,000 on purchases (up to 4 times) –

      • that’s an additional 3,750 MQMs on top of the 15,000 MQMs they already earn with Status Boost in the calendar year.
    • In 2021, Delta Platinum Card Members can earn 12,500 MQMs each time they spend $25,000 on purchases (up to 2 times)

      • that’s an additional 2,500 MQMs on top of the 10,000 MQMs they already earn with Status Boost in the calendar year.

Hilton Honors “Score More Points” Amex Offer:

Honestly, I wouldn’t levy $5k of extra spend to get 10k Hilton points, that an earn rate of just 2x and you’d be better served elsewhere in my opinion.

  • Earn up to 100,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points
    • Eligible Consumer and Business Hilton Honors American Express Card Members can earn 10,000 additional Hilton Honors Bonus points after they spend $5,000 on purchases (up to 10 times) through June 30, 2021.

Marriott Bonvoy Amex Offer:

Similar to my thoughts on the Hilton, I wouldn’t advise pushing $7500 of spend to earn an additional 7500 Marriott Bonvoy points.

  • Earn up to 75,000 Bonus Marriott Bonvoy points: Eligible Card Members can earn 7,500 additional Marriott Bonvoy points after they spend $7,500 on purchases (up to 10 times) through December 31, 2021.  Eligibility for this offer includes Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant, Marriott Bonvoy Business, and select Marriott Bonvoy Card Members.

Overall

These are great incentives for cardholders and Amex has proven adept in creating valuable statement credit categories that will help cardholders justify keeping these cards in their wallet while travel continues to be reduced. Bravo Amex!

Main Cast:

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Supporting Cast:

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® is exceptional starter card and offers transferrable Ultimate Rewards, and pairs well with other Chase cards.
