Hyatt has just announced the acquisition of the Mr and Mrs Smith booking platform for £53M GPB. If you’re unfamiliar, Mr and Mrs is a London based travel club that has booking access to over 1500 luxury properties around the world and extends some benefits when booking through them ( think Small Luxury Hotels, Leading Hotels of the World, etc ).
You’re probably aware that currently, Mr and Mrs Smith are associated with IHG One Rewards and have redemption capabilities with them, and while it hasn’t been announced what will happen here, I’d guess that will end sooner than later. Redemptions for Mr and Mrs Smith hotels with IHG One Rewards have been hit or miss at best and often priced quite high. Hyatt is absorbing the entire platform and members will hopefully be able to earn and burn their points at Mr and Mrs Smith properties around the world.
We have no idea what benefits will extend, earn rates, or redemption rates, but it’s a great addition to the World of Hyatt portfolio and I’d guess redemption rates will be much better than IHG. Current Cat 8s are 35k off peak 40k standard and 45k peak. I’d pay that every day of the week to stay here.
