World of Hyatt 2024 program changes

Yes, yes, yes! Hyatt has taken a countertrend perspective on loyalty and decided that in order to maintain the value of a program you should continue to reward those who stay loyal to it. In 2024, we will see ( for the most part ) added value brought to the World of Hyatt program. The full presser for World of Hyatt 2024 is here

  1. Mr and Mrs Smith will be up and running and extend better benefits than we see in the SLH partnership
  2. 2024 Milestone Rewards are richer and rewards loyalty every 10 qualifying nights starting at 20 and then all the way up to 150
    • the big winner is the 40 night level where you can earn a Guest of Honor booking and a Suite Upgrade Cert. Amazing.
  3. No change in Status Requirements
  4. No change in Status benefits

Why Hyatt is and remains the best hotel program

Hyatt’s footprint is the smallest, so they’ve opted to lean into loyalty, because in order to stay at a lot of Hyatts around the world, it takes more effort. They’ve also expanding enormously into luxury with the addition of SLH,  Mr and Mrs Smith, Alila, Zoetry, etc. Hyatt seems to be on the same page as I am when it comes to redemption… If I’m going to sleep in a lot of nights during the year, I want to take a vacation somewhere nice and enjoy the benefits, especially if I’m with my family.

  1. Hyatt is the only program that guarantees Suite upgrades at the time of booking
    • up to 7 nights even on award stays
    • IHG is second best in this regard with 5 nights and avail based upgrade starting at 14 night before arrival.
  2. 4pm check out is guaranteed
  3. Resort Fees and Parking is waived on Award stays for top tier Globalist status
  4. Breakfast is guaranteed to Globalist including tip

Perks will mostly be Bookable online

Not only will Hyatt introduce an award calendar that reflects live award space at some point in 2024, but much of what you’ll read about below will be bookable online. The Guest of Honor bookings, Suite Upgrades, FIND Experience credits will populate in your account, etc.

2024 World of Hyatt Milestone Reward Chart – more options, more benefits

Aside from Unlimited Guest of Honor bookings, nothing has been taken away, and only additional perks have been added. And even the Unlimited Guest of Honor Bookings aren’t exactly devalued because now both the giver and recipient can earn elite nights off their use + you start earning them with lower nights. You could argue that’s a deval, but I kinda think it’s an enhancement.

I like that they’ve continued to untether the Milestone Rewards from status. While it still takes 30 nights to hit Explorist, by adding benefits to 40 night level like the Suite Upgrade Certificate, which remains valid up to 7 nights, even on award bookings, even if I didn’t think I’d hit 60 to achieve Globalist, knowing that the 40 would get me a Guest of Honor Award and a Suite Upgrade would mean I’d be more likely to book nights with Hyatt or spend on their card.

New Milestone Rewards for 2024

  • New Milestone Rewards: Throughout their journey, members can earn new rewards:
    • 2K Next Stay: Earn 2,000 Bonus Points on their next stay at a Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Caption by Hyatt or UrCove hotel.
    • FIND Experience Credit: Choose between a $25-$300 FIND credit to use on any FIND experience around the globe, depending on the qualifying number of nights.
    • Guest of Honor Award: Give someone they care about – including themselves – Globalist benefits on either award or paid stays, starting at 40 qualifying nights.
    • Miraval Extra Night: Stay one night at a Miraval resort to receive a complimentary second night
    • The Ultimate Free Night Award: Enjoy one free night in any participating Category 1-8 hotel, Category A-F all-inclusive resort or participating Miraval resort (earned at 150 qualifying nights).

My Choices for Milestone Rewards

I’m a Globalist from the Bilt Rent Day challenge last year, so I get club upgrade awards anyways. That would be my only potential change if I didn’t think I’d make Globalist again, perhaps I’d choose 2 club upgrades for nights 20 and 30.

Personally, I’d rather have 2 additional suite upgrades vs a category 1-7 night.

Changes to Guest of Honor – your chance to experience or give Top Tier status

If you’re unfamiliar “Guest of Honor” bookings extend the benefits of the person who extends the award as “Guest of Honor.”  Previously this was reserved entirely for Globalist who needed to book the award out of their account. Neither the giver nor the recipient who get any elite nights. All of this has changed.

What do you get with Guest of Honor?

You will be treated like you’re Hyatt’s top tier Globalist during your stay

These are my favorites:

  • 4pm guaranteed late check out
  • if its an award stay, no fee for parking
  • free breakfast including tip
  • upgrades to standard suites if available
  • 40% bonus on points earned
  • waived resort fees on point bookings

Grand Hyatt Taipei Club Level – you’d have access with a Guest of Honor award

a table with food on it

How will they work in 2024?

  • Earn up to 10 GOH awards, starting with your first at 40 nights
  • Now they apply to cash and award rates, it was just award rates
  • You can give yourself a guest of honor experience even if you don’t have status
    • Just using the Guest of Honor award means you’ll be treated like you’re Globalist even if you’re without status.

Hyatt Leverage

If you’re a small business owner you can enjoy discounts at Hyatt when using this program. You can read more here. Beginning next year, you’ll earn 2 Elite Nights for every $5k qualifying spend. Note if you have the World of Hyatt Business Card the min spend requirement for Leverage is waived.

  • Beginning with stays that have a check-out date on or after January 1, 2024, a Member’s Administrator may earn two (2) Tier-Qualifying Night credits for every five-thousand U.S. Dollars ($5,000 USD) (or equivalent in foreign currency) in Eligible Spend (defined below), up to sixty (60) Tier-Qualifying Night credits per calendar year.

  • For the purposes of Hyatt Leverage, “Eligible Spend” is room rates paid for stays where a Member Employee (other than the Administrator) (a) is the registered guest, (b) provided his/her World of Hyatt number before or at check-in, (c) provided the Member’s Hyatt Leverage number at the time of reservation, and (d) paid a Qualifying Rate with the Discount applied. The registered guest whose name appears on the reservation must be a World of Hyatt member in good standing. Spend is not Eligible Spend if it (i) is for stays completed prior to January 1, 2024, (ii) is for stays without a World of Hyatt number at the time of check-in or not associated with a Hyatt Leverage code, (iii) is on rates without the Discount applied, (iv) is on any rate that is not a Qualifying Rate, or (v) does not meet the requirements of Eligible Spend. In addition, spend on products or services other than room rate, including without limitation resort/destination fees, additional cleaning fees, spa, food, beverage and lounge expenditures, laundry or dry-cleaning charges, telephone fees, membership fees, and amounts paid to a third party, and taxes do not count as Eligible Spend.

What are some of my favorite Hyatt stays?

I have used points to stay at the following properties

Overall

Well done Hyatt. Well Done.

One correction – at 60 nights, you get every award – don’t have to pick and choose.
