Hyatt not only recently updated their Bonus Journeys promotion for double nights, but also slashed their elite night qualification requirements for 2021. This confluence of events meant some pretty fantastic options became available for hitting Globalist status in just 10 nights, or 9 nights if you use credit card spend to help out. The biggest reason you’d want to do this status earned in 2021 will last until February 2023.  If you have trips planned in the first two months of 2021, it may be worth prioritizing Hyatt. If not, it could still make a lot of sense if you have future trips planned and could extract value from the benefits associated with Globalist status. I touched on this option in my in depth Hyatt promo article, but wanted to break it down even further with a dedicated article. It’s also worth noting that the status earned at 30 nights does not include the Suite upgrades since all of the Milestone Rewards have been kept in tact.

The benefits of Hyatt Globalist status

The biggest reason I went for Globalist status is the guaranteed club access or free breakfast, suite upgrades if available, late checkout, waived resort fees, and free parking. The savings from resort fees and club/breakfast can really add up, or improve the experience at resorts or upmarket city hotels. For instance… look at the breakfast that Globalists have access to at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. It’s just insane and would be guaranteed.

Or the club level at the Grand Hyatt Taipei…

Everything that you see below is included at that reduced 30 night level which has been 60 nights for the past few years.

If you were to continue on earning nights, you’d earn the following Milestone Rewards at each tier level

Hyatt slashes Elite status for 2021 by 50% – just 30 nights for Globalist

As you can see in the screen cap from Hyatt, it will only take 30 nights to hit Globalist status in 2021. The big thing to keep in mind here is what I mentioned above, which is the Milestone Rewards are in tact.

The World of Hyatt credit card is offering 10 Elite nights for new cardmembers

a blue sign with white text

Notice that the World of Hyatt credit card also provides 2 elite nights for every $5k you spend on the card.  So if you got the card and spent $5k you’d have 12 nights. Meaning you’d only need 18 nights

Bonus Journeys Promotion will yield double nights until 2/28/21

Bonus Journeys has evolved a bit, and if you remember you used to get one night in 2020 and then another in 2021. HOWEVER – the nights you stay in 2021 double up in 2021. That means every night you stay between January 1st and February 28, 2021 will count as double.   If you’re doing the math, if you picked up the World of Hyatt credit card, you’d only need 10 nights. If you spent the $5k, you’d only need to do 9 nights! You do need to register by January 15th.

25% off World of Hyatt nights if you’re a World of Hyatt credit cardholder

This makes hitting those 9 or 10 nights quite interesting. The cheapest Hyatt nights are 5k points a night. That means you could stay 10 nights, spend 50k, and then get a 12,500 point rebate. That’s 37,500 points for Globalist status. If you did the $5k spend and only needed 9 nights, you’re talking just 33,750 points.

If you’re paying out of pocked for those 9 or 10 nights…

Here’s a look at rates in Atlanta from January 1st to 11th.  Duluth is just $62 a night, or roughly $757 for a 10 night stay. Is that worth the possiblity of upgrades, free club level, breakfasts, etc for 2 years? OMAAT is also reporting that there are Office for a day rates that may even reduce it further, but you’d need to check I and out every single day.

Recap: 35k +/- points or $750 will buy you Globalist for 2 years.

  • Hyatt Reduces the status requirements by 50% allowing Globalist to be acquired with just 30 nights
  • World of Hyatt credit card promotes 10 elite nights for 2020 and 2021
    • This would give you 10 nights without staying anywhere

  • If you spend $5k on the World of Hyatt credit card

So what if you’ve still got the old Hyatt visa? Will that convert to the new World of Hyatt visa in January? And then 5 nights credit towards elite? So, at that point, I’d need to stay 12 1/2 nights before the end of February to reach Globalist?

    • Miles December 6, 2020

You should have gotten an email regarding the conversion and when that would take effect, but yes, it should give you 5 elite nights which would leave you 25 nights short, or yes 12.5

      • Paco December 6, 2020

Cheers. Haven’t gotten the email though. Annual fee due. Time for a retention call…

  • Quo Vadis? December 5, 2020

Good recap. Hyatt Place Sterling/Dulles Airport-North (a few miles north of Washington Dulles airport) has rooms in January and February for as little as $54/night.
