Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport Review:  Regency Club 2 queen

I’m en route to a wedding in London and some creative routing needed to be employed. This routing required me to travel through San Francisco, and as luck would have it, the brand spanking new Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport was available for points. It’s a category 2 hotel requiring only 8000 points per night. That is ridiculous considering the nightly rate was over $300. While I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel, it does have a few kinks that need to be worked out.

The Deets:

  • Hotel: Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport
  • Loyalty: Hyatt Gold Passport, Diamond
  • Rate: Points – Category 2, 8000
  • Value: $335 for 8000 over $0.04 per point Screen Shot 2016-07-27 at 10.49.02 AM

Getting to the hotel

Pretty straight forward. I landed, followed the signs, and found the hotel pick up. By looking at the website for the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport you can read that they run shuttles every 10-15 minutes.  The great thing about SFO is that they have these covered stations where you can stand. It was mid 50s in July and with windchill it had to be in the 40s. I was in a t-shirt and Miles was nude. He was just shivvering so much we had to stand in the booth. Well the shuttle driver just blew right by us. Miles hopped straight on twitter to ask what was going on? We’d seen the Westin shuttle 3x! Another 15 mins went by and another shuttle showed up. We were off.

Arrving at the hotel

The hotel is roughly 10 minutes away. However the shuttle delivers people to both the Marriott and the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport. They drop off at the Marriott first and then on the Hyatt Regency. Because they’re servicing two hotels the shuttle is quite full and most people got off at the Marriott. When we pulled up to the Hyatt Regency it was already apparent that it had been given a facelift.

I was really surprised by how busy the hotel was on a random thursday. I mean it was BUMPING! As a result Check in was a bit slow as there were only two desk reps, and 3 of us in line were Diamond. Boy that Diamond challenge last year was successful haha. Once it was my turn it was swift and I was given keys to my room and told about the club lounge.

My Room: 9117

The hotel was so busy that I wasn’t given any sort of upgrade aside from the club level which is included with my status. The hotel looks great and I was excited to see the rooms. I wasn’t disappointed. I have to say that they remind me a lot of the Hyatt Capital Gate in Abu Dhabi. They are clean, transitional in style, and a FANTASTIC airport hotel. I’m really happy to have found such a great option for only 8000 points. Ridiculous.

only downside was it was near the elevator

Once I was settled in I went downstairs to 3Sixty for a bite to eat. IT WAS BUMPING

ugh sorry for the blurry pic…it’s a beautiful new restaurant with flat screens for sports

The food was good, service was attentive, and I was really pleased with the whole experience.

The club

I made a mistake and thought it was the weekend. I know…what was I thinking?! I think it felt like I was away and I just had a mental lapse when I looked at the hours before I went to bed. As a result when I showed up to the lounge all of the breakfast had been removed. They only serve it til 9:30am on the weekdays and 10am on the weekends. Sorry about that – but the lounge is brand spanking new and a nice place to hang out with a wrap around terrace.

The only downside to the lounge is that it’s rather small. However, I went in a few times and it was never full. Surprising seeing as thought the hotel was packed and there were tons of people at the restaurant the night before. Worked out well though.

Fitness Center:

It’s functional, new, some free weights, some cardio, and yoga mats. I was able to get a great HIIT workout in while looking at a beautiful view.

Overall

Fan – flipping – tastic. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. It’s so close to the airport and I have a feeling it’s a fluke that the shuttle driver skipped me so I wouldn’t really worry about it again. For 8000 points you can stay at a great hotel, near the airport, and if you’re looking to transit through SFO and need a place to stay for the night – you won’t be disappointed. I ended up staying here because I couldn’t find a flight out of LA and needed to do a night’s layover in SFO to make things work. Having flexible points make options like this possible. As a diamond do you get breakfast in the restaurant or just in the lounge?

Lounge. I asked if there was a diamond breakfast at the restaurant and was referred to 3 different people who all told me the lounge. Hotel is very nice tho. Big, but very nice and you could hardly hear any air or car traffic
