MedinAction: Your House Call Doctor Everywhere

When we were on our England/Italy trip 2016 my mom got sick. We were in Assissi in the North of Italy. Assissi is a small town and we were headed to Rome the following day. I searched on the internet looking for potential ways to get a doctor to come our hotel and see her. We had taken out travel insurance with TravelGuard, but we had no idea what to do, who to see, or where to go. I found MedinAction and got ahold of Andrea – the owner and principle doctor. He quickly arranged a time to come to the hotel, brought a med kit, and was able to diagnose my mom and give her medication. He was a real blessing.

None of us spoke Italian and from what we had heard the Italian medical system can be quite complicated for foreigners. When we were in Assissi we were informed that it was highly unlikely that the doctors at the local hospital would even speak English. Finding MedinAction put me in direct contact, using whatsapp, with Andrea and we received the medical attention that we needed.

In fact, had my mom’s needs required a hospital their service will facilitate that as well. They were work with a clinic network that can perform scans, run tests, and admit if necessary. They are a 24/7 service and will speak to you in English. If you require a specialist they will assist you as well as a liaison. It’s a fantastic service that we found a lot of value in. We were charged roughly €150 for the visit. The prescriptions ran another €60. Cheap compared to what a service like this would cost in the USA.

We found them when we were staying in Assisi but used them in Rome. Their goal, to my best understanding, is to grow to serve more and more places. If you look at the embassy website of the city you’re planning a trip to they should have doctor info – it’s my understanding that those on the list can tell you the specifics for at home services.

Ah, I gotcha – it was a Rome service. I misunderstood. Thanks again for the info!

Very interesting and helpful. I have never heard of MedinAction. How did you find this?

    • Miles July 30, 2016

Hey Kay – thanks for you comment! I just started googling and came across an article about them. Worked great!

This is fantastic. Although the website states that it is for Rome and Florence, it works for other parts of Italy, correct? (You were in Assisi). Do you know if there are similar services like these in other parts of Europe for travelers?

I plan international travel for some senior executives at the studio I work for and this will be most handy. I am so glad I found your blog on Boarding Area. I will definitely share it! Great information!
