PointsPath is a new Google Chrome extension that gives Google Flights even more value by adding in award pricing next to cash rates. Last fall, I was given exclusive access to the new tool and ran it seamlessly alongside “Legrooms” without any issue and offered up a code to give you access as well. This had no financial incentive, I’m just buddies with Julian and asked me if I’d be interested.

Well…there’s no waitlist now, so anyone can download the extension, and roundtrip award rates have been added. If you recall, it started with just one way pricing.

PointsPath is very fast, and I think it brings a lot of added value in a straight forward manner.  It simply adds a column of data that shows you if points are available, how many, and if it poses a better deal than using cash. It’s currently being offered on American, Delta, and United, but according to founder Julian Kheel, more airlines will be added in the future.

You can download here

Note – the extension isn’t on the Google store, they are onboarding through their site, so you need to go there

A quick search showing how PointsPath integrates

The middle column indicates pricing for each flight that points are available to be used, and according to their own valuation metric, whether you should use points or cash.

If you click on a flight you’ll be given the option to book with points

This will take you to PointsPath where you can click on through to AA. It will land on the AA site, but not to the particular flight you chose. My understanding is that the tool is still ironing kinks so feedback is welcomed.

Why is roundtrip pricing worth mentioning?

Currently, PointsPath gives award rates on United, Delta, and American. Often, Delta will run their award sales which require booking roundtrip vs one way. The tool didn’t feature these promotional tickets because it only offered one way rates. Now…you’ll see those promos because roundtrips are now included.

As you can see… if there isn’t an award ticket available, it’s stipulates, but if there is one avail it tells you which is a better deal. The search below, I singled out the airlines included in PointsPath so you could clearly see how the tool works.

How does PointsPath value points?

According to PointsPath this is the valuations but these will shift up and down. If using points beats these valuations ( including taxes, fees ,etc ) it will point you to use miles, if it doesn’t, it’ll point you to cash.

As of right now, the median values for each of Points Path’s covered programs are 1.1 cents per mile for Delta, 1.25 cents for United, and 1.3 cents

Overall

Julian hit me about about testing it out and giving him some feedback last fall, and the response was really positive and he gathered some great feedback. There isn’t a waitlist any longer so you can download freely and use it.

Main Cast:

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.
