Review: Cathay Pacific Business Class Lounge Hong Kong

We arrived VERY early in the morning after a 15+ hour flight from Boston. However, all of us had slept pretty well, and we were all beaming after our respective great rides over on Cathay. The walk from the gate to the lounge was filled with me asking them all about their experience in first. It was also funny because my mom still had no idea we were headed to Beijing…she hadn’t gotten her boarding pass for that leg yet 🙂 I loved hearing what they loved most, were most surprised about, etc.  Seeing their reactions and hearing their impressions was nothing short of incredible, and I couldn’t have hoped for more…now it was time for some incredible lounge action. I was unsure whether or not we would all have access to The Wing as they were arriving in first, but continuing on in business class. I’m one world emerald, but booked my flight with Alaska miles.  When we checked in at Boston Logan my parents both received invitations to The Wing ( YES!!!! ) and all we needed as for me to gain access with my one world emerald card.  I didn’t anticipate this being a problem and we arrived at The Wing about 30 mins before it opened.  We grabbed a seat in the Cathay Pacific Business Class Lounge and had some drinks.

How I was feeling after the Cathay flights…

Check In + First Impression

As I’d mentioned in the intro my parents both had invitations to The Wing. I’d never been myself, but was SOOOO excited to experience it together…especially the Cabanas =)

The downstairs reception is gorgeous. I showed the attendant my parents’ invitations along with my AA app profile highlighting my executive platinum status. That was it, and all three of our boarding passes were stamped and we not only had access to the The Wing, but also the The Pier and all other Cathay Pacific lounges. Since The Wing wasn’t open yet we found a place to sit until the lounge opened.

The color scheme is beautiful.

Since the upstairs portion was still being cleaned and The Wing wasn’t open yet it seemed fairly busy.  While people were shuffling around for a place to sit it wasn’t overly crowded. Cathay does an excellent job of creating spaces that are well trafficked, but still feel luxurious and refined.

The food

While we didn’t eat anything and save our appetite for The Wing…it did look good and was presented buffet style.

The showers were impressive and gorgeous

Had we not been saving up for the cabanas upstairs I think these would have gotten great use by my family. They are drop, dead.

Overall:

Better than most any business class lounge you’ll come across.

It’s nice but the Pier J lounge is better – but I guess it’s just personal choice ultimately. All the CX lounges in HKG are great.

Just a FYI, First Class passengers on Cathay have a free +1 for lounge access. I lucked into upgrading a couple of award seats last week, so my wife and I took the kids that were flying e+ into the super nice section.
