Rumor No More: Chase Sapphire Reserve is official

The past few weeks have been an all out gossip extravaganza. I haven’t seen anything like it since Kim broke the internet.  I even read on a gas station bathroom wall that there was a new Chase Sapphire Reserve card coming out in August. Oddly the application number started with 1-900, billed per minute, and the gravely voiced phone rep was intent on knowing if I was a boxers or briefs type of guy.  Let’s just say I don’t think it was “Jake from State Farm,” but the moral of this story is Miles will go to great lengths to get you guys the scoop!  ANNNNNND NOW, after all the speculation, the rumors have been put to rest and Chase announced today that it was official: The Chase Sapphire Reserve card is real and some dude named The Points Guy 😉 was releasing the official deets.

The confirmed Deets:

  • 3X points on travel and dining
  • 100k bonus after 4k in 3 months – same min spend as Sapphire Preferred
  • $300 annual travel credit ( confirmed for ANYTHING coded as travel)
    • similar to Citi Prestige and much better than Amex Platinum
  • $450 annual fee, Authorized Users are $75
  • No Foreign Transaction fees
  • 1:1 transfer to partners
  • Lounge access is Priority Pass Select
    • unclear if only cardholder gets access or if guests are allowed
  • $100 fee credit for Global Entry or TSA Pre
  • 50% bonus on Ultimate Reward redemption through Ultimate Rewards site

Here are a couple leaked photos that were circulating Reddit a couple weeks ago:

There are also a lot of rumors circulating that people have been approved with more than 5/24

There is a large thread on Reddit that discusses the Chase Sapphire Reserve and a couple days ago a link was leaked. Tons of people signed up and many reported back that they had been instantly approved. Many of those applicants were WAAAAAY over 5 cards in 24 months. Some were mid 20s and higher. Who knows if this is because it was a targeted link that wasn’t supposed to be made public, or if it is a greater sign that the Chase Sapphire Reserver won’t be limited by the 5/24 rule like other cards.

I’m stoked

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® is exceptional starter card and offers transferrable Ultimate Rewards, and pairs well with other Chase cards.

Sounds great, but undoubtedly the ugliest card ever! Absolutely hideous. Looks like my local credit union’s student debit card, which is hardly “reserve” or premium.
