Singapore Airlines is running a promo sale until March 14th that features a lot of really attractive Premium Economy rates. I’m highlighting the direct flight between LA and Singapore which clocks in at roughly $1050 on many dates, however, these are Premium Economy Lite fares so don’t book them thinking you can be upgraded into business class for 27k each way.

Here’s the deal.

As you can see…there are a lot of deals to various locations across Southeast Asia. Not just from LA

More details.

You need to book by March 14th to get these uber cheap deals, and travel between April 1st and November 30th. However, if you have your eye on an upgrade and don’t mind spending a bit more…check out the second line of deals starting at $1401. Those are Premium Economy

Here’s an example of Premium Economy Lite pricing in at $1099

However, when you drop the menu you down you see that these aren’t upgradeable. But the middle column is…Premium Economy Standard.

Have your eye on an upgrade to business class for 27k each way? Spend the extra $330 and search for dates with business class space available.

Singapore Airlines prices upgrades based on the difference in award cost between the cabin you’re flying, and the one you’re upgraded into. On the flight from LAX to SIN a premium economy flight would typically cost 68k points, and a business class ticket would cost 95k.

If you’re flexible on your days…I would recommend looking to see if space is available in business class ahead of booking. This way you could book and confirm your upgrade consecutively. If you see this…you can upgrade into business with points.

How can you get Singapore Airlines points?

This is the best part. Singapore Airlines Krisflyer miles are some of the easiest to accrue because they’re transfer partners with all the major transferrable currencies.

Maybe I’m missing something, but a one way Saver from EWR to BKK is 99,000 miles. A one way upgrade from Premium Economy Standard to business on the same route is 63,500. So to upgrade you would save 35,500 but have to pay the fuel surcharge and any increase in other fees/taxes. On the flipside, you would earn 10K Krisflyer or Mileage Plus miles, but this doesn’t seem a great deal to me because you are paying close to the 1.4 cents per mile the TPG valuation puts it at.

Arlington – Hmmmmm…I think the problem is how you’re deriving the upgrade cost. I’m not sure where you’re getting the 63.5k to upgrade? The one way saver EWR to BKK for PE is 99k whereas the one way in biz is 132. So if you purchased a PE you’d just owe the difference, or 33k miles, to upgrade into the higher fare class. SQ doesn’t impose fuel surcharges anymore, on their metal, so the added fees would be relatively minimal. Does that make sense or am I off?

I have a semi-newbie question — I’d like to book a Singapore Airlines flight, but I’d like to credit the trip to my United MileagePlus account (both are Star Alliance members). The KrisFlyer website has the United MileagePlus option, but I’ve never done this before. How do I figure out what the credited PQMs, PQDs and award miles will be? United isn’t helpful because they want me to buy through them (plus I think the Singapore/United awards standoff is making them lie to customers). Any help on this would be great. Thanks!

I looked into these fares and they are pretty fantastic. Note though if you want to credit to Alaska, the R fare gets zero mileage credit.
