Strange – some of my Chase cards no longer have “combine points” as an option

Chase recently updated their credit card landing page and I wanted to update my post, “How to combine Chase Ultimate Rewards.” I discovered a strange situation where I no longer had the option of combining points when starting the operation from my Premium Ultimate Reward Accounts that offer transferrable points: Chase Sapphire Preferred®, Chase Sapphire Reserve®, and Chase Ink Business Preferred®.

Premium Ultimate Rewards cards no longer showing “Combine Points”

As you can see below, the “combine points” button should populate in the “Rewards Details” section on the main landing page within Ultimate Rewards.

I thought perhaps this was a hiccup and only affecting my account. However, when I checked 3 other accounts, they faced the same situation. The only cards that could start the “Combine Points” transaction were the cards that earn cashback Ultimate Rewards: Chase Freedom Flex(SM), Chase Freedom Unlimited®, Chase Ink Business Cash®, and Chase Ink Business Unlimited®.

Can still merge between Premium Ultimate Rewards Accounts

However, once I go to Combine Points I can move between cards that earn transferrable premium Ultimate Rewards just fine, I just can originate from those accounts.

I’m hoping this is just some sort of technical issue and isn’t a sign that Chase may discontinue the ability to merge Ultimate Rewards between accounts, especially from those that are earned from their cashback cards that earn Ultimate Rewards. It’s a weird thing that all 4 accounts I checked are facing the same issue.

We keep an up to date spreadsheet that lists the best ever offers: You can find that spreadsheet here.

Historically 80k is a very, very good offer and hit in both 2022 and 2023. In 2021, we saw the offer hit an all time high of 100k. Who knows if that will ever come back.

Main Cast:

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Supporting Cast:

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® is exceptional starter card and offers transferrable Ultimate Rewards, and pairs well with other Chase cards.

If you carry this card alongside Chase’s cashback cards like the Chase Freedom Flex®  and Chase Freedom Unlimited® or the business versions: Ink Business Cash® , Ink Business Unlimited® you can combine the points into Preferred account and transfer into hotel and airline partners

Annual fee is quite low at $95 a year + you get a 10% anniversary bonus on points + $50 hotel credit in Chase travel.

Same issue here. I called Chase and they said not to use the app and to go through chase.com/ultimaterewards. It worked, combine points link was showing via that url.

  • Peter W October 15, 2023

I noticed this tonight in my account as well. Hoping it’s just a technical glitch.

  • JV October 14, 2023

I have had this issue for a couple years it seems. I just send a secure message each time. It’s Moreno a hassle and I tell them every tike to restore the online functionality and save us both time, but I just get platitudes back.

  • Midhart90 October 14, 2023

I just tested and it works fine for me. When I logged in, I was greeted with a big grey “We’re upgrading our systems” banner, so any issue you’re experiencing is probably related to that. I had a similar issue a while back where Chase Offers would randomly disappear, only to reappear when I checked back a few hours later.

I wouldn’t read into this unless it’s still happening once that banner is gone.

I was shocked to see I also have lost the ability to combine points on my Ink Business Preferred cards. Doing a quick check, I was, however, able to move points from my old Business Ink Plus card to one of the Ink Business Preferred cards, just not the other way around! I hope this is is only a technical glitch. I haven’t seen anyone other than Monkey Miles even mention this issue online.

I’m having the same issue, and so is my wife’s account.

  • Kay October 14, 2023

I am having trouble as well and it’s concerning. It’s the reason I got two cards.

  • Johnson October 14, 2023

It’s still there. On the app, it’s under home, rewards details, and you will see combine points at the bottom of the list

  • Johnson October 14, 2023

So I also checked, it’s there but you have to navigate though the site.

On the app, click on home on the top left then rewards details and you will see the combine points.

Just checked my cards, as I only have personal and business UR cards. Both my Ink Preferred and Sapphire Preferred show “Combine Points” as an option. hopefully just a glitch on your end.

  • Robert B October 13, 2023

I dealt with this the other day trying to transfer from my business Ink and my personal Sapphire. When I searched how to do it on the site, it still told me the old method. When I called in they combined points for me and told me that we have to call in going forward. I feel like it’s only a matter of time before they’ll no longer allow these transfers.

  • J R October 13, 2023

I am able to see the Combine Points button in the menu when I am in UR for my CSR.

  • MFK October 13, 2023

My business accounts haven’t had the ability to transfer to my personal accounts for awhile now and I used to have to call Chase to move points to my CSP to transfer to partners. Now I have a Preferred and no longer have to do that, but still don’t have the functionality, either on the website or through the app, that you’re showing. Weird.
