Amex Offers: Spend $250 at IHG get $50 back

American Express just dropped a fantastic new offer targeting IHG brands on the lower end of their spectrum ( full details below ). If you spend $250 between now  and 06/15/24 you’ll get $50 back as a statement credit. There are some restrictions such as US based Amex cards, no gift cards, no point purchases, and any IHG properties that aren’t listed are excluded.

Amex Offers is a great way to offset annual fees and part of the reason I can end up extracting more money out of the 10 Amex cards I keep in my wallet than the fees I pay. It’s worth noting that you don’t need an Amex that has an annual fee to get Amex Offers, but I do find I am targeted for different offers on different cards. Let’s take a look at this Amex Offers for IHG.

Overall

It’s nice to see IHG getting some Amex Offers since their credit cards are with Chase, and getting an effective 20% off stays ( $50 back on $250 spend ) at more economically affordable brands is nice too especially if you’re doing a road trip. ( the last time it was only on Intercontinental and Kimpton ).

Main Cast:

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Supporting Cast:

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® is exceptional starter card and offers transferrable Ultimate Rewards, and pairs well with other Chase cards.

If you carry this card alongside Chase’s cashback cards like the Chase Freedom Flex℠and Chase Freedom Unlimited® or the business versions: Ink Business Cash® , Ink Business Unlimited® you can combine the points into Preferred account and transfer into hotel and airline partners

Annual fee is quite low at $95 a year + you get a 10% anniversary bonus on points + $50 hotel credit in Chase travel.
