American Express Green Card
One of the best ways to amp up your Amex point balance is to refer friends and family members and get referral bonuses ( 55k per card, per year ). Since we’re all friends here, I thought I’d bring it to your attention that I’ve been seeing increased offers on the hard hitting new Amex Green card. What are they? Reports are out of 35k to 45k – up from the 30k public offer. Personally, I I added the American Express Green card to my wallet to offset my Clear Membership, and also the ability to add 55k referral points per year. That is worth $150 easy without the other benefits…to me.
Here’s how it works with our site:
Referral offers is how I make upwards of 500k points a year, but it’s also how I can help you out. Since I’m constantly trying to use points on my travel for the site, I cycle through my referrals first, and usually very quickly I max out. I then work my friends and family through the site, and finally, I start adding your links that you leave below. I leave them up for a few weeks and then cycle in another one. My Amex Gold card referral gets hit pretty hard every month so you should also leave links on that post as well.
The Referral 35k welcome offer + Limited Time $150 Away statement credit – Use this link if you want to help us, our friends, and commenters
Each approved referral will receive the offer above, and the referrer will receive the following referral bonus
Some people are also reporting offers up to 45k, but those aren’t populating via referral so you’ll have to do some digging to find them, but you could be targeted.
Here’s a full video explanation of why we picked up the card, and how each offer is populating + a quick tour a cool Curio Collection Hotel in London.
American Express Green Card Bullet Point Benefits
- 30k Membership Rewards Welcome Offer after $1k Spend
- 3x on Travel, transit, and dining
- $100 annual Clear credit
- $100 annual Loungebuddy credit
- $150 annual fee
Limited Time $150 Away credit via Referral offer
My fiancee has an Away carry on in all aluminum. Attractive bag for sure. As you can see from the image below, Away suitcases start at a reasonable $225, meaning you’d net out at just $75 and completely get your $150 annual fee washed out with the credit.
3x on travel and dining – no nonsense categories as well.
The Amex Green card has a much more open and liberal interpretation of travel than does other Amex cards. Amex Green will earn you 3x points on every dollar you spend at the following:
- Rideshares like uber and lyft
- Subways and Metros
- AND ALL Dining worldwide.
145k to 155k points your first year if you max out referrals
That is a staggering amount of points that opens the door to an amazing list of premium cabins accessible via their transfer partners. How am I figuring that?
If you end up signing up via the 35k or if you’re lucky and get a 45k offer and you max out your 55k referrals…voila 90k to 100k. And then you’ll be earning another 55k in referrals again in 2020. That is just ridiculous.
You could fly roundtrip in Lufthansa First Class if you transfer them to Aeroplan and redeem, like we did, for 70k points.

Amex has really come to compete. After this Amex Green card, I’ll have 6 American Express cards in my wallet, and while I’ll certainly reassess each card come 2020, right now, they all fill a position in my wallet with good reason, and create an earning structure that keeps me flying flat, and reporting all that good good for your ( and my ) pleasure 🙂
If you want more information on how I make over 500k points a year, plus leave your links on the video too, check out this step by step walk through we published on YouTube.
