If you’re a reward geek, last October was quite the big deal – it was certainly marked on our calendar with stars and stickers and unicorn stamps. Why? Amex released their newly rebranded Amex Gold card and I’d say they hit every nail on its head. It’s hands down the best dining/food card on the market, and they’ve even improved it since.
You can read about all the details in this post, but shortly after the public links were released, news broke that referrals were actually giving out higher welcome offers.
Here’s how it works with our site:
Referral offers is how I make upwards of 500k points a year, but it’s also how I can help you out. Since I’m constantly trying to use points on my travel for the site, I cycle through my referrals first, and usually very quickly I max out. I then work my friends and family through the site, and finally, I start adding your links that you leave below. I leave them up for a few weeks and then cycle in another one. You can also leave referrals for the Amex Green, Amex Aspire, Amex Platinum, Amex Biz Gold.
Prior to the new card being released, I had been targeted for a 50k offer on the old Premier Rewards Gold and applied. Within a day of receiving the card, I loaded it onto my profile, and I can indeed confirm that Amex is populating 50k referrals (35k is the public offer ). Remember, referrals earn a bonus for the person who refers you, so if you’re a Monkey Miles friend, I’ll earn points for your referral, and if you leave a referral below the same goes.
If you’re interested in the card you can click : American Express Gold 50k Offer after $4k
Just as an FYI…after all of my bonuses are fulfilled I start adding in new referrals that continue to populate the highest offer I can find.
Referral offers vary, but typically, if you’re referring from an Amex Gold it’ll give 10k. I’ve seen Amex Biz Plat give 20k, and Amex Green yield 5k. It all depends.
Here’s a list of Benefits:
- 4x points at restaurants
- 4x points at US supermarkets ( up to $25k a year )
- 3x points on flights purchased directly with the airline or Amex Travel
- 1x on all other purchases
- $120 Dining Credit at select restaurants
- Grubhub, Boxed, Seamless, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House and participating Shake Shack locations. Excludes Shake Shack locations in ballparks, stadiums, airports and racetracks.
- $100 Airline Fee Credit
- Annual Fee is $250
If you do get the card – remember to activate your dining credit and airline credit
Targeted Authorized User bonuses started populating roughly 6 months into card-membership
If you were targeted like I was, this would potentially add on an additional 20k points simply by adding people to your account. Go here to read all the details – you are responsible for your authorized users and there are rules so read them carefully. Great thing is that you earn the points and the category bonus spend. If your mother or son dines out…you get the 4x points. BYAH!
Want the big bro to Amex Gold? Some are getting 75k welcome bonus referrals from Amex Platinum
Go to this article to read all about it, and YMMV, but worth a shot. Valid as of 5/16/19
What can 50k American Express MR get you?
One of the best redemptions is utilizing Amex transfer partner Etihad. Etihad has a more advantageous chart for American flights than does AA on their own metal. That means that this 50k welcome offer alone could fly you on AA from the US to Europe or South America in business class. Pretty awesome huh?
If you receive the 50k welcome bonus and 20k from Authorized Users…the grandaddy is now available to you. Lufthansa First Class.
There are a few tricks you need to learn in order to book Lufthansa First Class, but it’s possible via Aeroplan, which prices these first class lights at 70k between the States and Europe. BYAH!
Another insane example? You can fly the new Singapore Suites from Singapore to Delhi for just 53k points.
Feel free to leave your own referrals if you’d like. FYI – periodically I’ll grab someone’s and stick it in the main links above which will earn you points pretty quickly.
History of the referral bonuses:
- 50k offers populating consistently again ( 07/31/19)
- You can now get the Rose Gold version of the card again. 6/6/2019. Expired.
- Some are getting 50k offers again
- 50k up until January of 2019 when offer dropped to 40k
- January 2019 to 3/30/19 – 40k and then some starting to get 50k.
