American Express has various classifications of cards that they issue: charge, pay over time, and credit cards. If you’ve ever wondered how many Amex cards can I have…here’s your answer.
There had been long standing limit to the amount of Amex “credit cards” you could hold at any given time. Credit cards usually have a preset limit vs pay over time or charge which won’t. That credit card limit number for years was 5.
However, in the height of the pandemic, Amex lowered that limit to 4 in mid 2020. This wasn’t really an outlier move, many card issuers cut lines of credit when it was very unclear how many people would be able to continue to pay their bills. Note, there isn’t a limit to the number of charge or pay over time cards you can hold at any given time.
That has reverted back. You can now hold 5 Amex credit cards once again.
What are some examples of Amex credit cards?
Well, instead of listing all of the Amex credit cards, it’s easier just to list the ones that won’t be affected by this announcement:
Personal cards
Business cards
Overall
While there are Amex Credit Cards that earn Membership rewards like the Blue Business Plus and Everyday Preferred this will primarily affect your ability to add on another cobranded card like a Hilton Aspire, etc. The good news is welcomed!
