Diamond Princess back in service April 29th
According to the WSJ – the ship which has been docked in the Tokyo harbor will be thoroughly cleaned and put back into service, April 29th. This news comes as passengers are finally disembarking after some 600 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed onboard. The journal goes on to say that the Diamond Princess is roughly halfway through a ship’s typical lifecycle of 30 years having first set sail in 2004, and its initial cost was in the neighborhood of $500M. It appears the practice of putting ships back into service after an outbreak isn’t unusual, and standard practice is to skip the next cruise cycle while a top to bottom disinfection is performed. The Diamond Princess will skip more than one cycle as it’ll be dry docked until it sets sail April 29th.
Would you have reservations about setting sail so soon after the outbreak?
