Miles status matched to Alaska Airlines MVP Gold 75k

One of my goals for this year was to gain American Airlines Executive Platinum status. I BARELY MADE IT, and in the process Miles became the first monkey ever to hold Executive Platinum status. We haven’t been refuted on this claim…so we’re going with it! WAYO! Two of the biggest reasons I so desperately wanted EP was System Wide Upgrades and to status match to Alaska Airlines MVP Gold 75k. Alaska has an incredible match program and their Miles are SO VALUABLE. When AA devalued back in March and then smacked us down with their Revenue based earning  I knew I wanted a new program to align with. We matched to Alaska Airlines MVP Gold 75k for 2017!

What is Alaska Airlines MVP Gold 75k?

It’s the creme de la creme of Alaska Airlines. Top tier. The big cheese.

They offer a once in a lifetime status match.

How I did I do it?

Alaska has offered status matches for a long time, and back in October No Mas Coach wrote a great article on status matching to Alaska. If you haven’t read it, I’d recommend it. The nuts and bolts are as follows:

  • Email – Elite.flyer@alaskaair.com
  • Make sure you attach your Mileage Plan number
  • Copy of the front and back of your elite status card
  • A screencap of your online profile that shows the status and miles flown

I actually submitted mine without a copy of the front and back of my elite card. I still haven’t received mine and just made special note of this in my letter to them. Didn’t really matter – within 7 days I was matched.

125% bonus miles – YES!!!! AND a 50k bonus when I re-qualify.

What will it take for me to qualify for 2018?

Miles status matched to Alaska Airlines MVP Gold 75k

I’ll probably do the 90k route. This means that my travel alone could generate me:

  • 90,000 base miles
  • 90,000 x 1.25 bonus miles = 112,500
  • 50,000 bonus when requalifying.

That’s 252,500 Miles!!!! Stop, drop, roll cause that is straight FIRE!

Japan Airlines just recently released their chart for redemptions. And it’s sick on a stick.

More than likely I will use these miles for premium cabin international travel. Alaska is fantastic for these types of rewards – Japan Airlines has some incred products.

I anticipate I’ll fly quite a bit with Alaska, and A LOT with partners. I know I have a couple international business class trips already planned with their partners.

Alaska Airlines Partners

My super ambitious goal is to qualify for MVP Gold 75k and another year of Executive Platinum.

I’ll probably have to do some mileage runs, but with Panama City tickets still pricing so well, Hainan offering some amazing rates to Beijing, and Quito being pretty cheap as well – I think I can have some fun trips to write about and get some MILES ON MILES ON MILES.

Look at Hainan business class (listed as “R” first class on the award chart) for earning the 90k. The premium cabin bonus counts toward status, so I typically earn 28k qualifying miles per trip. They frequently have sales on business class fares, and I’ve gotten then as low as $1400 RT.

Best of luck from a fellow Alaska 75k traveler!

Erica – Thanks so much! Appreciate the support and readership =)

  • cj December 14, 2016

Miles tell me about pty flights ?

  • cj December 14, 2016

Lets get miles more excited – its 252,000 not 242,000 for flying 90,000

    • Miles December 14, 2016

Cj – ohhhhhh myyyyyy gossssssh – you’re right! updating now =)

  • Sean December 14, 2016

It will take a LOT of flying partners to get to the 90k level now. Earning on AA O and Q fares only receives 25% EQM now for AS. The base RDM mileage is the same, plus the 125% bonus. DL earning is similar, but only E class earns at 25%.

Beware of this — it’s not the Home Run it once was since AS changed their AA earning on 8/1/16.

    • Miles December 14, 2016

Hey Sean – so true..i’m hoping to lob some biz fares towards it, but we shall see how the year shapes up. fingers crossed

      • Sean December 14, 2016

Cool – just wanted to make sure you didn’t do the same thing I did — Plan the year out with the old AA earning rates with AS, only to get smacked in the face with the new, 25% rates.

Now considering to just chase AA EXP with QR J fares or CX Premium Y fares, since they carry a generous EQD component.

  • Frank December 14, 2016

So you will fly 215,000 paid miles? 125k for EP plus 90k of Alaska? That’s a lot!

    • Miles December 14, 2016

Hey Frank – Thanks for reading and the input! ya…190k eqm ( 100k for ep and 90 for mvpg75k ). It’s a lofty goal lol =)

  • Bourbon December 14, 2016

Confused. One of your screenshots states “Members granted complimentary status, including status matched from another program, are not eligible for the 50,000 bonus mile offer.”

    • Miles December 14, 2016

Hey Bourbon – this is correct. My status match doesn’t give me the 50k, I will only earn that if I qualify again this year.

  • Brandon December 14, 2016

look luck with your ambitious plan! just thinking about all you’ll get to see along the way makes me quite jealous.

    • Miles December 14, 2016

Hey Brandon – thanks for the encouragement! It’s a tall order, but gotta shoot for it =)
