POP: Cathay Pacific Business Class Boston to Hong Kong “Mini Cabin”

Let’s be honest. Sometimes you don’t want to read a whole review. So we’ve created a new series called POP: Pictures Only Post. Posts in this series will feature the product, minimal description, and focus on 5-10 Pics.  A more detailed review will come in the following week or two, but here’s a quick look at Cathay Pacific Business Class Boston to Hong Kong “Mini Cabin”.

My parents were able to lock down 2 First Class tickets using Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to snag any last minute seats in First so I ended up sitting in the business class mini cabin. This worked out really well. My last experience on Cathay wasn’t akin to their reputation so I was lucky to review it again for only 50k Alaska Air miles. It blew me away. My last experience was oceans away from this. The service was impeccable and they brought me back and forth to visit my folks in First…even pouring me some Krug 😉

The Mini Cabin is just 2 rows ( 13,14) set between the First and Main Business Class cabin. It’s where you want to be. I was in seat 12D

When our tickets were first booked my Dad and I were in business together…hence the middle seat selection. 10 days prior to take-off a seat opened up in First and I moved my Dad up to it. Unfortunately there weren’t any window seats avail at this point. However, the reverse herringbone design provides ample privacy.

Improved amenity kit.

Last time I flew Cathay Business they had a much smaller amenity kit that had a wrap around leather cord. This one is quite handsome and will be much easier to reuse.

The bed.

Definitely comfortable. The comforter has been improved and is heavier than it used to be which is great as the cabin was kept quite cool during flight.

The IFE.

The headphones are sub-par compared to American. First class passengers get Bose…business do not.

The food was good, not great.

  • […] Alaska Miles for under $0.02 each. To put that in perspective you could be buying 1 way tickets in Cathay Pacific Business Class the States to Asia for under $1000 each way. That is an excellent deal! I never recommend […]

Improved amenities kit? They deleted the very handy glases cloth and the shoe horn and put the leftovers in a very bland bag. Yet more evidence of cut costing

I think the headphones have that awesome retro look. Kind of like RAF WWII radio headphones.

Here’s a wierd question. The comforter thing. Do you put it on top of the seat like a mattress pad or on top of you like a blanket? My last flight I wasn’t sure so opted as a blanket. Inquiring minds want to know.

    • Miles April 15, 2017

Hey ss – I used it as a blanket and thought it was the perfect heft.

Hmmmm. Cathay J is ok – I don’t see the big deal, however I do prefer it to Qatar J – I find QR a bit “false”. The CX seat is no better than the AA 777. CX lounges I do like and the staff are friendly.
