Updated: See Sidenote – tip may be moot as booking may not be directly possible
Many of us are currently checking our Iberia accounts to see if the 90k promo is actually honored. I’m not 10 days out from my booking dates so I’m not surprised to find my account void of these flight credits. However, I have been investigating how I may want to use my points. One such redemption that is high on my list is Aer Lingus. Interestingly, I haven’t redeemed Iberia Avios for Aer Lingus specifically, nor have I done so for any of my award clients. One thing I noted in my research was that it appears the price you’ll pay in Iberia Avios may actually regard Aer Lingus’ peak/off peak chart not that of Iberia.
An article I came across shows how OMAAT redeemed BA Avios for Aer Lingus and his redemption cost related to the Aer Lingus, not BA, peak/off peak chart. Since Aer Lingus, Iberia, and BA are all under the same IAG umbrella, I’m assuming this will be the case for Iberia as well.
*a sidenote –
some readers are pointing out that Aer Lingus isn’t listed as a partner on their website; as I’ve noted, I haven’t personally done this, but according to UpgradedPoints they are a non-alliance partner bookable over the phone. (UpgradedPoints has since changed the page since my linking to reflect that this is now accomplished via transfer, not solely booking over the phone) This reflects the traditional thinking on Avios transfer. However – I wouldn’t count on this being accomplished if you’re using Promo miles – it’s indicated that this could result in a negative balance Under normal circumstances you can transfer your Iberia points to Avios or BA Avios to book Aer Lingus. I’m simply trying to show that the rate that you will pay ( if you can ) looks to be based off of Aer Lingus’ chart, not the underlying currency you book with. I’ll update.
You can go here to check Aer Lingus Peak/Off Peak calendar or here to see the Iberia Peak/Off Peak
