STARLUX is a new airline out of Taiwan that has some really impressive looking interiors featuring some gorgeous business and first class cabins. Up until now, they haven’t had any partners where you could earn/burn miles on outside of their own program. That has changed in a very big way – they are now partners with Alaska Airlines. I contend Alaska has the best domestic US program and is a full member of One World.

Note, they will join China Airlines and EVA has Taiwan based international carriers.

Promotional Rates start this summer – 60k in Business Class

To mark the start of the partnership, you can start earning Alaska miles immediately on STARLUX, and later this summer, you’ll be able to redeem Alaska miles at a special rate:

  • LAX to TPE
    • Econ = 20k Miles
    • Premium Econ = 40k Miles
    • Business Class = 60k Miles

Our Mileage Plan members can now earn miles on all STARLUX flights, and soon they’ll be able to redeem miles on STARLUX. When redemptions become available this summer on STARLUX flights between Los Angeles and Taipei, they will start at 20,000 miles for economy, 40,000 for premium economy and 60,000 for business class for a limited time.

Overall

Alaska has a fantastic program; however, they have done some stealth devaluations and started a move towards fully dynamic pricing, but it’s worth getting while the getting is good, and once STARLUX initially drops some award tickets, jumping on them to book while the rates are fixed this summer. I’m super stoked to try what looks like an incredible new airline.
