Latam Status Match
LATAM is offering a status match to many airlines for a fee of $39 that could be advantageous if you have any future travel on LATAM, or are considering leveraging it to get status on an airline you fly more regularly. For instance, if you currently have AA Platinum Pro, you could match to LATAM Black, and then use that Black status to match to another airline before it expires in 3/31/23. If you’re thinking of doing this, one consideration to make is that many airlines won’t match a match…you’d need to have activity on your LATAM account to leverage it down the road.

I’m conflicted. The worst case is I waste $39, which is probably the cost of a cocktail in NYC these days. I currently have Delta Diamond, AA Platinum Pro, and Air Canada Aeroplan 75k so I would match to LATAM Black. I won’t retain any of those statuses next year since I’ve done very little flying on those airlines this year. The $39 for this match would be a hedge to keep this status in my back pocket and then use it for a status challenge or match come after my other airline statues expire, but before LATAM expires next March.

Historically 80k is a very, very good offer and hit in both 2022 and 2023. In 2021, we saw the offer hit an all time high of 100k. Who knows if that will ever come back.
