American Express Delta Credit Card offers:
Let’s take a look at the complete portfolio:
- Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card
- Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card
- Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card
- Delta SkyMiles® Gold Business American Express Card
- Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card
- Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card
I consistently advocate that your wallet should have a main and supporting cast. The main cast gets the bulk of my every day purchases and earns you flexible points you can transfer to partners. The supporting cast gets purchases that lead to elite status, free bags, free nights, etc. For instance, I would classify an Amex Gold as main cast, and any of these Amex Delta credit cards as supporting cast. They can be quite helpful if you fly Delta a lot and want some extra benefits. Personally, I think the Gold versions are solid options for the casual traveller, and the Platinum and Reserve variants work better for those seeking Delta status.

There are the primary reasons to get any these cards imo
Delta added a new feature for cardholders with the 15% discount on award flights. This benefit alone could make it worth your while to keep a Delta card in your wallet if you find yourself redeeming Delta SkyMiles with any frequency. You’d get that benefit whether you use the card much or not. Here’s a list of the other reasons you may want to keep the card in your wallet, but not use it for most of your expenses.
- Boost your Delta SkyMiles balance for a potential trip
- Get closer to status with an MQM Boost
- Get free bags, board earlier
- NEW! 15% discount on award flights
If you don’t fly with Delta often or you’re not chasing Delta status, I would steer you towards cards that provide higher earn rates and transferrable points like the Amex Gold or Amex Platinum – both of these cards earn points that can be transferred to Delta if you so choose. Also, remember that Amex Platinum and Business Platinum both give Delta SkyClub access when flying on Delta.
Targeted offers you should know about
There has been recent success with people getting targeted offers ( shown below ) that may be better for some people. However, double check the offers to see which is best for you. For instance, sometimes the offers have lower points but come with a statement credit on Delta purchases. You can check to see if you’re targeted by going here or here via Another set of Targeted offers you can find via this link
Are you eligible? Look at these new “Family Rules”
In mid Sept of 2023, we saw the addition of new Delta Amex family rules. The most restrictive is Gold, then Platinum, then Reserve. If your long term goal was to have all three, you’d want to start with Gold then Platinum, then Reserve.

Our thoughts
As I mentioned in the intro…these cards are truly aimed at Delta loyalists who can extract value from free checked bags, elite boosts, boarding priority, and Club access where applicable. The earned spend as a regular use card is inferior to other products issued by Amex like the Platinum and Gold cards ( where I put most of my spend). If you’re looking for a way to boost your SkyMiles account and get closer to Elite status…there are some compelling options for you to consider.
