$720 in total statement credits for

Amex Business Platinum in 2020

Last week we reported that Amex was sweetening a few of its products, one of which is the Amex Business Platinum.  The sweetener we reported for the Amex Business Platinum was $20 credit per month on both wireless service charges and shipping. That’s $320 if you max out. Well…the deal has gotten sweeter for the $595 annual fee card, and another $400 of statement credits have been added ( maybe targeted?).

Don’t forget to add your referrals to our Amex Business Platinum referral page either ( currently an 85k referral)

A quick refresher on the Amex Business Platinum benefits we value most

  • $200 Incidental Airline Credit with your specified airline
  • $200 Annual Dell credit ( split $100 each 6 months of the year )
  • Centurion Club Lounge Access
  • 50% bonus on purchases over $5k
  • 35% back on points redeemed on your airline of choice/premium cabin tickets
  • 5x points on flights purchased in Amex Travel
  • $595 annual fee – not that we love this, but you should be aware of it

$400 of New Amex Business statement credits

I just received a targeted email for $400 in statement credits broken into two parts contingent on renewal

  • Agree to keep my card for another year and get a $200 statement credit after my annual fee hits
  • Get double the Dell credit
    • $100 between May 1 and June 30, 2020
    • $100 between July 31, 2020

Note we have an article that will help you find products to use your dell credit

Don’t forget about the already announced credits of $40 a month on wireless and Shipping. Another $320 If you max out.

Check out the terms and conditions, but things like hardware and non shipping items sold are excluded. The incentives are really geared towards rewarding actual wireless service charges and actual shipping charges. Whether other charges trigger the credit remains to be seen, but Amex has an effective RAT team that claws back purchases that weren’t supposed to trigger. Keep that in mind when valuing this benefit.

Thoughts

It’s clear that Amex is leading the pack on offering sweet retentions to their customers. I’d recommend reading our article on retention offers changing after the fee hits so you can assess whether you want to take this offer or not. We ended up lucking out and getting a better offer after the fee hit, but I was fully ready to cancel.

I’m going to mull this over, on the face of it…I like it. I’m pretty ready to accept. I like that my Amex Business Platinum gives me 35% back ( maybe they’ll even increase this back to 50% as a spicy incentive ) and I could easily make full use of the $400 in new incentives. This makes the annual fee more like $195 which I’m more than willing to eat. I susepct I’ll probably be able to make use of the airline incidental credit since I travel with a pet quite often, but who knows given the environment.

The $40 per month incentives will go largely unused aside from maybe some random shipping purchases I’ll make. The wireless credits stipulate they must be used on monthly services not equipment – given the propensity for clawbacks I won’t even risk buying some cords, cases, etc.
