Can I stack Citi Prestige’s 4th night free perk?

In case you aren’t familiar with Citi Prestige, it’s Citi’s most premium card and one of its benefits is a 4th night free when you book through their travel service. This is a HUUUUUGE benefit and combined with the $250 annual airfare credit and lounge access ( both Admiral’s Club and Priority Pass), the $450 annual fee is completely eaten up and then some. The thing I get asked quite frequently is whether you can Stack Citi Prestige’s 4th night free perk with other promotions?

The Answer is YES!

Citi used to use a firm called Carlson Wagonlit, but earlier this year they moved booking in house. This was a big advantage because it essentially opened up a ton of potential for offers to be stacked and the Citi Prestige Concierge can go straight to a hotel website and select the deal you want. I wrote about this a couple times in the past, but thanks to you guys my reader base has been expanding and expanding. THANK YOU! If you’d like to check those out check out one on spg and the other on Hilton in Hawaii. As long as the concierge can book it and you pay in full with your Citi Prestige card you will be able to stack offers. screen-shot-2016-10-18-at-12-33-30-pm

In fact if you look at the terms…starting July 23rd of 2017 you’ll be getting an average discount applied to the 4 nights. So essentially 25% per night, not the specific 4th night free. It’ll be interesting to see if we can still stack in the same manner, or if only specific deals will be applicable. ANYWAYS…

How I recently Put into practice:

I just got back from Scotland. While I was booking the reservation, Hilton was having a big 30% off sale. I called up the Prestige Concierge and asked her to find a specific rate at the hotel. It was part of their summer sale promotion. It was pre-paid, for 4 nights, and the discount was applied. What this essentially meant was I was going pay for roughly 2 nights and get the other 2 free.

I looked into the Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh

It’s central, historic, and beautiful. I’m also a Diamond so I thought I’d get some extra benefits. I’ll be publishing a review soon, but the Diamond bennies aren’t plentiful, but the hotel is pretty dope.Caledonian was 30% off

The total rate through the website was $1262.41 for 4 nights. It averaged out to be a little over $315 a night. Not cheap.

But alas we found a great 30% off deal

The rate gets reduced to $883.69. Now we’re averaged out at $220.91

Don’t forget we also are going to call Citi Prestige. I had to walk the agent through the process of where the discount was, but once she found it – it was easy peasy.

This was my bill from Citi Prestige. After the 30% off and the 4th night free credit were applied the average rate was $662.77.  That’s almost 50% off the published rate. That’s  $165.69 per night for an incredible hotel in central Edinburgh. Stacking a deal deal.

When you look at the $220.92 that I saved from this hotel night and the $250 airfare credit I’m already over $100 ahead on my discounted Citigold $350 Citi Prestige annual fee. This doesn’t include the numerous Admirals Clubs I’ve visited nor the $250 airfare credit I’ll get next year!

Curious to know how long it took for the credit to post. I’m still waiting for several stays from September and starting to wonder if I should follow up or wait a bit longer.

    • Miles October 22, 2016

Hey Jason – I still haven’t received the credit. This is my first experience with it, but it says up to 2 statements. I’ll keep the blog up to date when I receive my statement credit. Thanks for reading!

Will the 4th night free benefit work on 2 hotel rooms during the same stay?

    • Miles October 19, 2016

Antonio – unfortunately you can’t get the free night on 2 rooms unless you use two prestige cards. additionally you can’t book back to back reservations and get two free nights. Mon-Fri then Fri-Tues would give you just one free night. You’d have to have a gap day in between to qualify for two stays and 2 free nights.

Darn!! It was worth a shot! Thanks for replying. I enjoy the blog, keep up the good work!
