If you search for award availability on your phone using AA’s mobile site, you’ll see a considerably different calendar of availability when compared to the full site/aa.com. If you’re running into this problem, don’t worry…it’s because the mobile site shows solely AA space, whereas the fullsite/aa.com shows partners as well.

Here’s what AA’s mobile site shows me for LAX to LHR for 2 people over the next few weeks. Not much avail.a screenshot of a computer

However, when I look at the AA.com site…I see considerably more options with the same search parameters.

Now let’s look at a different search from San Francisco. Here’s the mobile search.

Compared with the full site/ AA.com desktop search.

If you’re doing any sort of search, I’d recommend using the full AA site, this will show you all of the available options including partners.

Once I searched using the Full Site the inventory matched what I found on my laptop.

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® is exceptional starter card and offers transferrable Ultimate Rewards, and pairs well with other Chase cards.

Nice tip! I rarely find mobile sites to be preferable to their desktop counterparts when it comes to function. I’m also surprised that AA still hasn’t included any sort of awards availability booking feature on its app (or at the very least an awards search function). I’m sure the scope of oneworld makes any necessary algorithms/app logistics a pain to deal with in comparison to Star Alliance or SkyTeam (United/Delta both have the option)… but I’d think that’d make for a greater incentive to utilize every available platform. Though, I suppose most people find that apps in this vein leave little to be desired, so I guess it’s a moot point. (Also, just a head’s up, your first image shows availability for SFO->LHR rather than LAX->LHR)

Sil – 🙂 you’re diving deep down the rabbit hole

  • Joseph July 12, 2018

The difference is the mobile site does not show partner award availability, rather you have to use the full site to see BA, QF, etc.

Joseph – One of those mornings over here at MonkeyMiles – hadn’t had my coffee yet…updated the post
