Hilton extended my Diamond status thru March 2018

At the end of the 2015 there was an all out free for all for top tier status.  Hilton was amongst those matching status and ran an “honor your status” program – as a result, I was able to match to Hilton Diamond status with my Hyatt Diamond status until March of 2017. THEN, midway through 2016 ( around April if memory serves) Hilton ran a follow up “honor your status” program that would grant status through 2018.  There were many data points that showed current Hilton Diamonds were getting rematched. I thought what the heck and I requested that Hilton extend my status. I never heard back. I had hoped that Hilton extended my Diamond status thru March 2018 and never informed me. This never happens, but one must dream!!!

Let’s be honest…It’s great getting access to buffet breakfasts and club levels like I did at the Hanoi Hilton where I just stayed.

I was very surprised today

I wanted to see if my Hilton Hanoi points had credited and logged into my account. I saw something intriguing…it listed what I needed to do to maintain status for 2018… I figured my status ran out March 2017, but was confused over it saying to “maintain diamond status in 2018.”

I couldn’t quickly find the date when my status would expire so I chatted with an online rep named Mart…

Hilton extended my diamond status thru March 2018! BYAH!

This just goes to show that it never hurts to try, attempt, and ask – you never know what you may get. Looking forward to another year of Hilton Diamond =) BYAH!

Hilton is also running a current status match but it’s only for 90 days and requires activity to maintain it.

  • […] Hilton recently gave extensions to their Diamonds. Thank YOU! Club level is the single perk I love most about elite status. I also received my 100k bonus from the Hilton Surpass sign up ( if you’d like this card, that’s a 100k link) around the time we stayed. Things were just lining up nicely. BYAH! […]

  • Elijah January 11, 2017

I was looking at this again this AM, and while my indicator looks identical to yours with the same dates, I confirmed with chat that my status is indeed only though 3/18. This is really frustrating. :-/

    • Miles January 11, 2017

      Elijah – 3/18 would mean it’s extended…do you mean 3/17?

      • Elijah January 11, 2017

Yes…it says “to maintain status in 2018,” but they confirmed my current exp date is 3/17. Typo. Anyway…the guy on chat gave me lots of copy/paste form responses and clearly was not interested in any dialogue about whether is was right or wrong/how it is confusing/etc.

      • Elijah January 11, 2017

Just talked to the Diamond Desk. No luck with any help, but Irene was very understanding and apologetic and set expectations around how they might be able to help me when they get more tools in March.

I think it is bull that I have to work this hard to “be loyal,” but they good news is they did say that having a baby is a life change and often gives them more flexibility in making exceptions. Just sucks that I have to be an exception when I have so many lifetime nights and who knows how many countless thousands of $ spent with them.

  • Darlene January 10, 2017

Thanks for this info, I just looked and I am extended through March 2018 as well…..thank goodness!!! My question is how did you get only 29 more stays to maintain, I have 60…yikes!!!!

  • MFK January 10, 2017

My Hilton Diamond status was extended too. Now if only Hyatt would do the same… 🙂

  • Victor January 10, 2017

Same here! Extended until 2018. This is great. I maintained my Hyatt status again but stayed at various Conrads for about 10 nights in 2016 due to the status match. Looks like I will do the same this year.

  • Hoc January 10, 2017

Well, I have no idea why, either. But I got my Diamond status via Hilton Surpass at the end of 2015. I never extended it, or requested an extension, but my tracker also states that I need 29 more stays to “maintain diamond status in 2018.”

Oh, well. I was thinking that I would have to spend $40k through March, but I’m not looking a gift horse in the mouth.

  • Norman Cabanilla January 10, 2017

Miles, thank you for this post. After reading it I contacted Hilton via their website chat function, and found out my Diamond status (which I status matched to my IHG spire in early 2016) is good until March 2018! I was planning to get the Citi Hilton Reserve to ensure i have Hilton Gold to get breakfast at all my Hilton stays during my honeymoon this fall (and I will still probably get the card) but knowing I have Diamond throughout 2017 will probably force me to change all my hotel stays for all my trips this year.

    • Miles January 10, 2017

Norman – glad it worked out and enjoy it!

  • Zac George January 10, 2017

Mine expires in march 2017 but they also extended mine to 2018, funny thing is I didn’t requalify or extened the status, odd.

    • Miles January 10, 2017

      Zac – congrats homie!

  • Kyle January 10, 2017

I also had the reference to 2018 in my status tracker after enjoying a year of status match; did the chat and was told I expire 3/31/17. I’m likely to get pretty close to 30 stays within the first 3 months of the year, but am doubtful that I’ll be able to avoid at least a month or two of Gold before earning it back…

    • Miles January 10, 2017

Kyle – wow you’re killin it on stays…good luck and enjoy!

  • Rich C January 10, 2017

Just checked mya status and same deal they extended my diamond status till 2018!,,, I did not even ask. I think they may have given this extension to all those who got on board the initial status match!! Sweet!

    • Miles January 10, 2017

      Rich – awesome! congrats

  • Jen January 10, 2017

How do you even do chat? I can’t find it on the app or website. Just gives me options to call.

I did the exact same thing and never heard back. Looked at my online profile and it says the same thing, so I want to confirm if mine was extended too.

    • Miles January 10, 2017

Hey Jen – thanks for reading and the chat popped up on the lower right handside for me after I was logged in

      • Jenny January 10, 2017

No pop-up chat box for me, so I called and the agent confirmed – I was extended through March 2018 too! Thank you for writing about this!!

        • Miles January 10, 2017

Jenny – dope! enjoy and thanks for reading!

  • Peter January 10, 2017

Got the same answer mentioned by Mark The rep must love Monkey 🙂

  • Elijah January 10, 2017

Correction above. I am set to go back down to Silver. THE HORRORS! 🙂

    • Miles January 10, 2017

Elijah – you should think of getting the amex hilton surpass…$95 and gold status

      • Elijah January 10, 2017

I am too far in with Hilton HAHA! I carried Marriott Silver status for several years, but the nature of my work travel leaves lots to be desired; give me HGI or Hampton over Fairfield Suites any day. Everyone at my work goes Hilton, and we often travel together, so cheating isn’t really an option.

I have the no fee Hilton AmEx but I primarily use CSP except for Hilton stuff. So the Surpass is my backup plan. I am hoping that if I contact Hilton, they will love me enough to bump me back to Gold automatically (given my long time loyalty and the baby situation) or give me a Diamond challenge. Obviously, I prefer Diamond for more reasons than just the published perks (AKA they have never told me no…except maybe in this situation). But if they will give me Gold, I will be thrilled, and I won’t have to pay the annual fee which I prefer to avoid. Either way…I have options!

  • Elijah January 10, 2017

I am so jealous! Due to my wife having a baby, I travelled much less this year. After five years of earned Diamond status, I am set to go back to Gold. Sooo…I was really ticked to see Hilton offer of “free” status through 3/18 when I was busting my butt to earn it for 2017.

I called to politely vent to the Diamond Desk, and the kind person I talked to didn’t even know there was such a status match and acknowledged how I would be frustrated. Sadly, her hands were tied. I also messaged the social media team on Twitter, and they simply gave me a long sorry not sorry that was meant to sound like they cared about me. They never fully grasped my perspective and seemed to not admit that there was a match opportunity through 3/18.

So it will be interesting to see what happens when my status downgrades…what they will be willing to do.

I truly love Hilton. I never stay anywhere else. They enable my family to travel for little to nothing, and for the countless $ my companies have spent with them, we have enjoyed incredible vacations we would. Or otherwise have enjoyed.

All that to say that I am happy for you (and jealous)! I wish I were in the same boat, and I hope Hilton acts like they care about my long time loyalty as much as they cared about drumming up “new” business.

    • SJ January 10, 2017

Same boat here, 120+ nights in 2016, but dont plan to travel much this year for family reasons. The way I see it, I had enough nights to earn diamond twice, but it will be unfortunate that Hilton will target certain folks, but do nothing to maintain loyalty.

      • Elijah January 10, 2017

Word. I was really unhappy about it. If it had only been through 3/17, I wouldn’t have really been upset, but it was a good show of what/whom they really value.

    • Miles January 10, 2017

Elijah – thanks for reading and totally get where you’re coming from – i wonder if you couldn’t wait for your status to downgrade and then challenge for diamond again if you saw that you were having a lot of activity. up until this past year I’d been hilton gold through Amex plat and tbh I didn’t notice a huuuuuuge difference when i’d stay. most times i still got club level or a free breakfast benefit which wasn’t guaranteed, but often went my way. however, imho i think marriott’s mid-tier is the best in terms of bennies – so if you’re looking to cheat… 😉

  • Mark January 10, 2017

I should have done the April-ish extension you did. I just checked and am set to expire this March. I did the chat thing and asked if they could extend it, but was told I’d need to wait until the downgrade then do a challenge requiring 21 nights.

    • Miles January 10, 2017

Hey Mark – thanks for reading! I think I just got lucky…did you attain status with the match?

      • Mark January 10, 2017

Yeah, it was the same status match you (and everybody else) did a while back. I just missed the second round.

        • Frank January 11, 2017

          Mark,

What did your Elite Status Progress bar say? “to maintain Diamond status in 2018…” or “to maintain Diamond status in 2017…” ?
