How will I make use of this promo?

My wife has two Marriott credit cards that = 30 elite nights. If we were to pivot 10 hotels to Marriott during this promo period, we’d earn 20 total elite nights and secure another year of Platinum status. That may be worth it!

How much are Marriott Bonvoy Points worth?

You can typically buy them for about 8/10 of a penny periodically throughout the year when they go on sale. That seems like a good place to peg them. That would mean you’re getting $12 back on each stay.

Is a night and a stay the same thing?

No, a night is just what it sounds like. A stay, is defined as: consecutive nights spent in the same hotel, regardless of check-in/check-out activity, at any points-eligible rate.

What are some Marriott Bonvoy Elite Benefits?

This is the official Marriott Bonvoy Elite benefits table.

Marriott Bonvoy Life begins at Platinum status.

This is where you get guaranteed lounge access, breakfast, etc. So, if you have paid travel coming up, this could be a way for you to really accelerate through the status tiers. This is also a benefit of the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card

Making use of Credit Cards to get a big boost of elite nights

If you keep a Marriott Bonvoy credit card in your wallet you’re probably starting the year off with 15 nights, meaning platinum is just 18 nights away during this promo. If you have the Amex Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant, you’d get your annual choice benefit after just 13 nights ( Brilliant has 25 elite nights as a benefit and Choice bennies start at 50 elite nights. ) You can read more about Marriott co-branded credit cards here including which ones are offering the highest offers.

As of August 2023, this is a quick cheat sheet on how many elite nights you’ll get with each card

  • Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card
    • 25 elite nights
  • All other Marriott Credit Cards
    • 15 elite nights

  • JW Marriott Austin

    • Knightsbridge – a bit dated, but great location and good use of 50k night cert

Overall

This is the best hotel promotion we’ve seen so far this year that is open to the public and fast tracks your ability to hit a very valuable elite status quickly. Hyatt had a wide variety of targeted promos, some including double elite nights, but this one is open to any and everyone during the promotional period.

We keep an up to date spreadsheet that lists the best ever offers: You can find that spreadsheet here.

Historically 80k is a very, very good offer and hit in both 2022 and 2023. In 2021, we saw the offer hit an all time high of 100k. Who knows if that will ever come back.

Main Cast:

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Supporting Cast:

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® is exceptional starter card and offers transferrable Ultimate Rewards, and pairs well with other Chase cards.

If you carry this card alongside Chase’s cashback cards like the Chase Freedom Flex®  and Chase Freedom Unlimited® or the business versions: Ink Business Cash® , Ink Business Unlimited® you can combine the points into Preferred account and transfer into hotel and airline partners

Annual fee is quite low at $95 a year + you get a 10% anniversary bonus on points + $50 hotel credit in Chase travel.

Not sure this is working for everyone, I logged in and got a message stating there is no promotion or I’m not eligible…weird!

  • Joe January 31, 2024

Do I have to rebook if I already had stays upcoming within those dates or will just registering be enough to receive the bonus?

    • Miles January 31, 2024

Register and you should be good to go!

  • AP February 11, 2023

Just completed my first stay during the promo period so I went back and reviewed the fine print this morning again to find this little nugget… “A member who elects to earn miles is not eligible for this promotion.” oops! I switched it over so hopefully I caught it in time for it to post correctly.
