I have long heard that his property is amazing, and I’ve always walked by it and wondered if the rumors were true. Yes, it’s a stunning property aesthetically with beautiful, high arching Edwardian interiors, but the rooms are a bit dated. Would I stay here again. Yes, again and again. It’s a super easy way to get around town, as well as hop on a train to see other parts of England or visit family and friends. Worried about train noise? We didn’t hear a thing. The hotel can run north of $500 a night, but we were able to snag 3 nights with a combo of points and free night certs. Let’s dig into it!

The Location

The area around St Pancras is getting better and beter, and in fact there is an area called the Granary that is well worth walking over to see. Coffee, shops, cafes. About a 10 mins walk.

First Impression

If you enter through the main doors, and not via the station, you’ll be greeted with a gobsmacking multi story atrium that is truly impressive. Not only is this where check in is housed, but it’s also where you could take afternoon tea, or simply grab a drink at the bar.

Check-in

My wife checked in without me, but she told me they let her know of all her benefits. One thing to note, this hotel restricts access to their executive lounge, or The Chambers Club, to those who are Titanium and higher. Usually, by the rules of Marriott, Platinum and higher should have access, but they get around this by naming it something different. That is dirty in my book.

The Room

Our room overlooked the adjacent street and British Library, one of the largest in the world and holds the Magna Carta. It’s a drab and dull looking building compared to the St Pancras, but it was also very quiet.

a bed in a hotel room

King bed, small fridge, standard bathroom. There isn’t anything really noteworthy about the room, and to be completely honest, when compared to newer hotels, the rooms seem quite dated. Would that stop me from staying here? No. But when they charge upwards of $500 a night, you could find much nicer in the city. If you’re using points…eh, what’s the big deal.

The Executive Lounge – The Chambers Club

Located just off the Booking Office, you’ll find a discreet door with a keypad.

Behind this… a two story, absolutely fabulous, lounge that features a variety of presentations throughout the day.

We chose to take breakfast in the main restaurant, and sadly, I only visited the lounge once around the high tea hour.

Dining

There are several options, but even if you aren’t staying at the hotel, it’s worth checking the restaurants simpy to have a refreshing beverage or Afternoon Tea. The aesthetics are second to none with exceptionally high ceilings and visually impressive displays of Edwardian architecture.

Breakfast is served in the Booking Office. The food was fine, nothing exceptional, but worth having. Would I go out of my way to come here to dine…no. But when staying, I would attend breakfast if it were included in my booking either by rate or status.

Sadly, the Midland Grand Dining room was closed during our stay as was the Gothic Bar for a private event. These are two spots I’ll have to check out on our next stay.

Gym

The is a small gym, especially for the size of the hotel, on the lower level of the hotel next to the spa.

Overall

I’d stay here again in a heartbeat.
