Thompson Buckhead

Thompson hotels are just plain cool, but they’re also just plain pet friendly.  Thompson hotels and Kimptons often get our business for those two factors exclusively.  I recently had the great pleasure of spending a staycation at the Thompson Buckhead and while I’ve stayed at quite a few hotels in Buckhead including the Kimpton, Grand Hyatt, and The Whitley ( Luxury Collection ), but I was eager to try out the neighborhood’s newest addition.  I love Thompson hotels, and this one absolutely didn’t disappoint. The location is quite good if you’re wanting to nip into Buckhead village, and it was within walking distance to Aria, a nearby restaurant often rated as one of Atlanta’s best, that we will be certainly returning to again hopefully sooner than later.

Bottom line: I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at the Thompson Buckhead again in the future.

Arrival + Check In

The hotel is right at the corner of East Paces and Buckhead Ave standing tall, all glass, with an exclusive lounge overlooking the east side of the hotel and a rooftop pool on the west.

Check in

The hotel is less than a year old and is gorgeous. As soon as we pulled in, despite being in our home town, felt like we were on vacation. We were promptly greeted, and check in was swift.  Standard suites weren’t available, I inquired about a paid upgrade to a Parlor Suite which would give us access to their member’s only lounge Tessarae. $150 – we said no.

King City View Room

Our room featured a large, floor to ceiling window that flooded the room with light.

We were given a welcome bottle of Pelegrino, some fruit, and a handwritten message alongwith 2 terrycloth robes, and a small closet with a safe.

There is a small mini bar with no room to store anything. We requested a fridge to store some dog food and medicine which was delivered within a minutes of our request.

The bedside tables feature several plugs, and a small bench to sit on at the end.

The bathroom

Sleek. Dark. Large shower with shared products. It’s a very cool bathroom, but as I’ve said in most of my reviews, I’m not a fan of shared products. I always wonder if someone has put something in them, and unlike individual products, I doubt they get properly cleaned in between each guest’s usage.

Dining

There are 3 restaurant/bar

  • Dirty Rascal
    • Where you’ll eat breakfast – we spent roughly $75 between the two of us and it was removed as a Globalist perk
  • Lobby Bar
    • Where you can grab a chic, delicious cocktail

  • The Roof
    • Where you can soak by the pool and have a quick snack

Overall

We had a wonderful stay at the Thompson Buckehead. I’m sure we will be doing another staycation, and The Thompson is a the top of the list
