How to transfer Marriott points between accounts

Marriott just made it very easy to transfer points between accounts. If you were unaware that you could do this, it’s been a perk for years, but annoyingly, the IT wouldn’t allow you to do it online and you’d have to phone it. The max is still capped at 100k points per year, but you can complete the transfer online, saving the hassle of phoning in. This should be very advantageous if you’re taking a trip with someone who has higher status than you and you’d like to split the cost and move your points into their account, or if someone is short on points, you could transfer from one Marriott account to the other to shore up the needed amount. Let’s take a look at how to do this! Shoutout to LoyaltyLobby for spotting this

The St Regis Aspen

Things to know before transferring points:

  • You must transfer increments of 1000 points
  • You can only transfer 100k from a single account
  • An account can only receive 500k points in a year
  • Accounts are in good standing and have each been open for at least thirty (30) days with qualifying activity,
  • (90) days without qualifying activity.

Step 1 Log in to your account

You’ll want to click on About Marriott Bonvoy, you’ll then see “Manage Points”

Step 2: Manage your points

You’ll see several options, but you want to select the one on the far right ” Share your points with other Marriott Bonvoy Members”

Step 3 – fill out the Combine Marriott Points form

This is great and quite straight forwards

Overall

This is a massive improvement and that will make transferring points from one member to another a lot easier and more straight forward

Historically 80k is a very, very good offer and hit in both 2022 and 2023. In 2021, we saw the offer hit an all time high of 100k. Who knows if that will ever come back.

Main Cast:

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Supporting Cast:

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.

Just read this and minutes later got the email that the programs merge in August!

Susan – I need to dig into the program to see how it will ultimately effect transferring between accounts, but my gut says to do it prior to August
