The Chase World of Hyatt credit card.

Hyatt has some of the best opportunities for high value point redemptions of any hotel brand in the world ( check out our Alila Uluwatu $1k a night villa review as a great example).  They’ve acquired some truly aspirational properties and are a direct transfer partner of Chase’s Ultimate Rewards program. We’re always looking for ways to organically get the best value out of our point stash, but also extract maximum value from credit cards we hold. Let’s walk through the Chase World of Hyatt Credit and its updated offer.

The nuts and bolts of the Chase World of Hyatt credit card:

We have seen 60k after $4k spend in 3 months

We keep an up to date spreadsheet that lists what the highest offers: You can find that spreadsheet here.

Main Cast:

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Supporting Cast:

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.

The World of Hyatt credit card comes with an annual category 1-4 award night which I have always found a way to redeem on a property that is worth more than the $95 a year I pay for the card. That alone makes it worth it to me.

It comes with 5 elite nights every year which can be helpful if you’re shooting for status.

Hyatt points are also the most valuable hotel points around coming in somewhere in the 1.5 to 1.8 cents per point value.

This makes putting everyday spend on the card a decent value proposition if you’re angling for Hyatt status and card spend can help boost those elite nights as well. Every $5k you put on the card yields 2 elite nights.

Don’t forget that $15k spend yields an additional category 1-4 night.

The flexibility of points

A lot of people loved when the sign up bonus was 2 nights at any hotel in the world. The problem was you had to use them within a year, and if you weren’t taking a trip in the year, or plans changed, you’d end up using the nights at lower tier properties and lose out on their potential value. With the new World of Hyatt credit card, you get points. And points are flexible for you to use how you see fit.

What are some of my favorite Hyatt stays?

I have used points to stay at the following properties

You get an annual night free at category 1-4 hotels.

Every single year after your first anniversary you will receive a free night certificate. On top of that, you’ll get another night when you spend $15k a year on the card. I look at the $95 annual fee as “buying” a night at a great hotel for a weekend get-a-way.

There are TONS of great Category 4 ( and under ) hotels around the world. For instance, the Grand Hyatt Washington D.C. is well located and can be yours free just for holding the card. Spend $15k and you’ll get 2 free nights. I’ve stayed at the Grand Hyatt Berlin, Grand Hyatt Beijing, and Grand Hyatt Singapore ( all before I was blogging ) and utilized points and status to have amazing stays. I would highly recommend all 3.

You could spend your way to status. Although I’m not sure that’s what I would advise, but it’s possible.

If you’re looking to achieve Globalist status, Hyatt’s top tier, that gives incredible benefits to its members you can do so with spend. Globalist requires 60 nights to achieve the first time, and 55 nights each year to achieve there after. Remember Hyatt changed their policy and now points and points + cash rates count toward elite status.

The World of Hyatt credit card gives you 5 elite nights just for having it. That leaves 55 nights for your first year or 50 nights for your second year.

  • You get 2 Elite night credits for every $5k spend
    • 54 nights would be needed your first year ( you get that free night after $15k spend )
      • $135k
    • 49 nights would be needed for your second year.
      • $125k spend

The point is it’s possible, but I’m not sure I’d advise putting that amount of spend through this card. But, if you’re someone that has millions in expenses each year, putting that amount through the card may be of little consequence to gain top tier status for your travel. Or, if you throw a large party, wedding, or hosting events at a Hyatt that comes close to $135k – you could earn 9x points on top of earning status, etc.

Is this card affected by 5/24?

Yes, you will not be approved if your credit report reflects opening 5 or more new accounts in the past 24 months

Will I get this card?

I’ve had it in the past and plan to get it again
