Update! – Read the fine print closely. This was actually for a new card not an upgrade. My current Biz Gold was mentioned in the offer but the links populate a new application not an upgraded offer. My Apologies…original article below:

Keep your ears pricked! I just received an absolutely monster, the biggest I’ve ever seen, upgrade offer to Amex Business Platinum.  I’m not alone, I’ve seen 140k offers from MaxMilesPoints and it seems this may be a new round circulating. The best part…it seems, accordingly to the offer terms, that I have until the end of April to take the upgrade offer. This continues the heaps of points Amex continues to throw at existing cardmembers via upgrades and targeted offers. Let’s take a peek at my 150k Amex Business Platinum upgrade offer.

  • 150k after $15k spend in 3 months
  • 0% interest for 12 months as well on qualifying Pay Over Time purchases.

Honestly…these offers just seem too good to be true but they keep targeting

My biggest concern here is that I currently have 2 Amex Biz Golds. With an offer like this, I’d do it in a heartbeat, but I have 3 Amex Business Platinums already and don’t want to tempt fate. Every single card has been a targeted offer to me specifically, via USPS or email, but after the whole Amex shutdown fiasco earlier this year via a rogue rep, I don’t want to somehow end up collateral damage. I have a while to think about it, but keep an eye out as you may get targeted as well.

There is currently an 80k offer after $4k spend in 3 months available in branch, and up to 90k after $6k spend in 6 months. I suspect some version of this will be online soon if you don’t want the hassle of going into a branch.

We keep an up to date spreadsheet that lists the best ever offers: You can find that spreadsheet here.

Historically 60k is a very, very good offer. In 2021, we saw the offer hit an all time high of 100k. Who knows if that will ever come back. .

Main Cast:

Cards that earn flexible points and should be used on the bulk of your purchases.

Supporting Cast:

Cards that earn fixed points in the currency of the airline/hotel and can not be transferred at attractive rates. These cards yield benefits that make it worth keeping, but not necessarily worth putting a lot of your everyday spend on.

    2 email offers:

    1. You’re pre-approved to upgrade to the reimagined Business Platinum Card (140k pts, $10k spend)
    2. Earn 150k Membership Rewards Points after you add the reimagined Business Platinum Card ($15k spend)

No 0% Apr. I have a Gold business, but no Plat. I think its worth the extra $300 for at least a year with the “reimagined” Plat. I have to act by 04/13/22, but will do before the jump in Jan.

  • H November 18, 2021

haven’t seen them mention any lifetime limit so it seems appetizing

  • Rob November 18, 2021

Mine reads exactly the same. But I’m confused about whether this is an upgrade or a new application. It looks more like a new application when I click through the “apply now” with income questions etc. But in the upper right corner of the email it has a picture of my Amex business green card. I don’t see the word “upgrade” anywhere though.

    • Rob November 18, 2021

Ok, so I just went through the process and my suspicions about this being a new application and not an upgrade was right. I was approved and it shows up in my account along with my old green card, not instead of it.

    • Miles November 18, 2021

Rob – I updated the post…you’re right. I misunderstood the offer since it had my business gold information at the top and others had received upgrade offers + I have 3 business platinums that this was indeed an upgrade but it look like its a targeted new application.

  • Earl Lee November 17, 2021

I got this too but the email they sent me ending with the last 5 digits is ALREADY a Business Platinum. I’m not sure what there is to upgrade as I already have the Business Platinum. I’m confused. Are they asking me to apply for another?

  • Alex2 November 17, 2021

I got the offer too, but when I applied I was denied since I already have the Biz Plat. I’ve heard though that you can have more than 1 Plat so I’m not sure what that’s about…..

  • brian November 17, 2021

I don’t have a business platinum card now. I see a 150K offer for a new application, and a 140K offer for my gold biz upgrade. Can I get both? probably won’t but wondering….

  • JeffP November 17, 2021

Yep..I got it today too. I have the same concerns you do. This would be 3 Biz Plats in less than a year??? Tempting but I am going to pass for now.

  • Mak November 17, 2021

I was targeted but going to pass. This card has just become too gimicky for me and I gave it up during Covid when I was getting zero value out of it. I don’t want to bother with the enrollments and keeping track of the benefits and when to use them . . . reminds me of cutting coupons or S&H Greenstamps, but payiing $600 for the privilege. This card was once valuable when the travel benefits were there (a real concierge, 2for1 F/J tickets, FHR Rates that didn’t come at a premium price that subsumes the value of the benefit) but I don’t want to be bothered with these little kickbacks. The 150K miles is obviously enticing, but 2 years of Annual Fees will wipe out the benefit. Pass.

    • FabinhoBP November 17, 2021

You said it all Mak !!!
I’ve been an Amex Platinum Customer for almost 30 years (33 Amex years in total) but I am about to drop the card because these actual stupid “benefits” means nothing to me.

      • Mak November 18, 2021

I carried the Business Platinum Card as my principal card for 27 years and started to realize how hard I was working to justify the annual fee. My AF was due just as Covid was starting and nobody was going anywhere, to get some relief. A small discount would have made me happy enough, but I was told pay the full fee or give up the card – so arrogant. So I did, and haven’t missed it yet. I got a free Blue Card to keep my miles and now my Chase Ink is my main card. The irreconcilable differences between Amex and I have only grown in the past 18 months. They kept their card, and I have an extra $750 or so in saved Annual Fees (and growing) in my pocket, and never have to think for a second how to justify it to myself or anybody else. I have enough to think about without dealing with that stuff.
