Chase IHG Rewards Club Premier
The Chase IHG Rewards Premier card that was introduced in 2018 is packed with value if you stay at IHG properties. Additionally, if you’re an Intercontinental Ambassador, it could be even more valuable when stacking benefits. Let’s take a look at the IHG Rewards Club Premier Card and why you should consider picking up the card.
You could kick back and enjoy the sites in London at the Kimpton Fitzroy – one of our fave properties.
What are the perks of the new IHG Rewards Club Premier card?
- 125k bonus points after spending $3k in the first 3 months of account opening + A Free Reward Night ( up to 40k points for the award night )
- A free night after each account anniversary year
- These are currently valid at properties 40k points and below
- 4th night free when redeeming points
- 20% off purchased points
- Can’t be stacked with points sales tho
- 10x points at IHG hotels
- 2x points at gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants
- Platinum status at IHG while holding the card
- Global Entry/TSA Pre fee credit every 4 years ($100)
- No Foreign Transaction
- $89 annual fee
Annual night certificate effectively pays for the card’s annual fee year after year.
As I mentioned above, every year you keep the card, you’ll get a free night certificate. There are a ton of 40k and under hotels in the world whose nightly rate is WAY over $89. In fact…I wrote an entire article about it. Read that here.
More recently I showed where the new Intercontinental Rome was populating nights at 40k. This is a stunning new property and would be a tremendous use of a free night certificate.
Is this the best ever offer?
It depends on how you look at it. Previously we have seen 140k points after $3k in 3 month. This offer will reward you with 125k points after $3k spend, but it will also give you a free night at any IHG property, up to 40k. If you can make use of that night at 40k, this offer could be worth 165k.
The 4th night free benefit is most intriguing.
I think one of the most interesting benefits is the 4th night free benefit when using points for the redemption. My goal with using IHG points is to stay at hotels I wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford.
Case in point: The Six Senses Maldives.
This property prices in in a 100k a night, but often is over a $1k a night with cash. A great opportunity to utilize points to stay somewhere I wouldn’t ordinarily be able to.
If you’re like me and already have the now retired IHG Rewards Select…you’ll save even more by stacking.
Let’s take the situation I was describing above. A 4 night stay at the Six Senses Maldives – 400k.
With the IHG Rewards Club Premier card we’re talking about 300k for a 4 night stay ( 4th night at 100k isn’t charged). However, since my mom, dad, and I all have the IHG Rewards Select card that earns 10% back on all redeemed points ( up to 100k a year) we would be saving an additional 30k points.
4 nights at top tier properties for just 270k points is amazing.
Stacking benefits with Intercontinental Ambassador
Intercontinental Ambassador is a membership program that you buy for $200 a year or 40k points. It comes with several benefits for members – the biggest are listed below.
But…there some really cool things that stack with Six Senses in particular. Since I mentioned Six Senses above – I figured it was worth pointing a couple out. These are valid on point bookings as well
- Free breakfast ( very valuable at Six Senses )
- Signature Amenity ( like a 50 min massage for two )
- Room upgrade
- Wellness platter
20% discount on purchased points.
This discount DOES NOT apply to points purchased during targeted sales. So…that almost makes the discount moot.
Is it restricted by 5/24?
Yes, all Chase cards are restricted by 5/24
Whether I get this card in the short term, or not, it’s a card on my radar and something I think I will ultimately add to my wallet. Looking at the frequency of which I stay in IHG properties with points, the 4th night free benefit is uber valuable to me and my family. Time will tell how the old IHG card continues to maintain benefits, or even exist, but a 4th night free benefit teamed with the annual night cert is a killer 1-2 punch.
