November American Express Statement credits

Every month certain Amex cards have credits that expire, and if you’re like me, a reminder is helpful so you don’t waste them. July is a special month since a ton of semi-annual statement credits reset so take a look down below so you don’t forget to use them!

Cards in this post:

In addition to monthly credits, don’t forget all the semi-annual credits across multiple cards – those semi annual credits reset in January and July.  Several hundred dollars of new credits just renewed!

Here’s a quick little guide to make sure you are aware of all the Amex statement credits you can use.

The Platinum Card® from American Express

Every month The Platinum Card® from American Express has an Uber cash credit (enrollment required) of up to $15 except for December which is up to $35!

Amex Platinum also comes with a litany annual credits. The list is very long and note that these are all paid as statement credits and are “up to” the amount listed…meaning if you don’t use the full credit, you don’t get the full statement credit. All of these need enrollment in order to trigger.

For instance, in the past, I’ve used the annual $200 hotel credit on single night stays via Fine Hotels and Resorts. In 2021, I stayed at the Rosewood in Vancouver – gorgeous property. In 2022 I used one at the Hermitage in Nashville and my wife used her credit at the Conrad Nashville, this year I used mine at The Joseph in Nashville ( can you tell we go to Nashville a lot lol ). All of them are stunning properties.

I’d also point out that you can use your annual Digital credit on Hulu and add on HBO Max, Showtime, etc and effectively fold those into your credit. Additionally, WalMart+ comes with Paramount+

150k after $6k spend in 6 months along with 15x worldwide dining ( up to $25k ) was the best we ever have seen publicly through Resy. However, the 150k referral without the dining is pretty hard to beat imo.

We keep an up to date spreadsheet that lists what the highest offers: You can find that spreadsheet here.

American Express® Gold Card

Every single month the American Express® Gold Card has a dining credit of $10, this month is no different. I’ve had success in the past buying gift cards to use in the future, but the only catch is using them at valid places: Grubhub, The Cheesecake Factory, Goldbelly, Wine.com, and Five Guys. The other catch is making sure you’re enrolled.

Amex Gold also has an Uber Cash credit of $10 a month. If you hold both AmEx Platinum and Gold these can stack to earn you $25 a month. Enrollment is required – learn how to do that here

This is one of the absolute workhorses of my wallet.

The best ever public has been 90k after $4k spend in 6 months + the $250 dining credit ( this was on Resy ); however, some people have gotten targeted 100k offers, but those are extremely rare.

The annual fee on the American Business Platinum Card® is quite steep so you want to make sure you take a look at the benefits/credits and confirm you’ll use them every year.

I’ve found that I earn more points from the American Express® Business Gold , but I’m able to take advantage of  a lot of statement credits, lounge access, and 35% points back on premium air travel booked via the Amex Travel Portal…effectively 1.54 cents per point.

I take advantage of this perk when it requires fewer points than transferring thus reducing the amount of points spent when booking.

A lot of people overlook the Amex Green card as it falls in the shadow of its premium siblings the Amex Gold and Amex Platinum. But this is a bad mammajamma earning 3x on travel, transit, dining, and has a very liberal interpretation of travel compared to other Amex cards.

Travel with the Amex Green card is defined as the following:

  • Flights
  • Hotels
  • Tours
  • Vacation Rentals
  • Rideshares like Uber and Lyft
  • Busses
  • Taxi
  • Subways and Metros
  • Tolls
  • Earn 40,000 Membership Rewards(R) Points after you spend $3,000 on purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months of Card Membership.
  • Earn 3X Membership Rewards(R)

Marriott life begins at Platinum status where you get executive lounge access and breakfast at most properties. This card unlocks that status just having it in your wallet.

Is it worth $650? That’s a lot, but if you’re planning Marriott stays, value breakfast/lounge access, it definitely could worth it. Just remember that Ritz Carlton doesn’t honor those benefits…

Get up to $25 monthly dining credit is worth setting a calendar alert, even it it just means loading your Starbucks account.

Another thing to note is that the Platinum status that comes with this card doesn’t include the Choice benefits extended at 50 nights. One of those is suite night upgrades, but you’ll start the year with 25 elite nights as a perk, so you’re half way there.

Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card

The biggest statement credit to keep an eye on with this card is the annual Delta Stays credit where you can get $100 back if you book a stay via Delta.com. These are available on prepaid stays ( however some bookings can be made as refundable so beware ) – so if you have this card I’d keep an eye on those prices as you could get an easy statement credit on your stay…just keep in mind you won’t be earning any elite credits, etc.

  • Annual Benefit
    • $100 Delta Stays Credit: Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card Members can earn up to $100 back annually on eligible prepaid Delta Stays bookings on delta.com.

Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card

The biggest reason to get this, aside from SkyClub access which you can get from the Amex Platinum, is the potential MQM boost via spend + the domestic companion certificate that includes domestic 1st class.

I think most people are attracted to this card because of the SkyClub access when traveling on Delta and access will change come 2/1/25. Make sure you look at the Amex Application Rules here

However, you can get that via the Amex Platinum card which I’d argue is a much better card dollar for dollar.

The biggest reason I’d take a closer look at this card is

You purchase at least 2 first class tickets every year for more than $650 a piece. This card comes with a domestic companion certificate that you can use on first class. You’d still need to pay taxes on that extra ticket, but that could pretty easily recoup the annual fee right there.

  • Enjoy complimentary access to the Delta Sky Club® when you fly Delta. Effective 2/1/25, Reserve Card Members will receive 15 Visits per year to the Delta Sky Club; to earn an unlimited number of Visits each year starting on 2/1/25, the total eligible purchases on the Card must equal $75,000 or more between 1/1/24 and 12/31/24, and each calendar year thereafter. Once all 15 Visits have been used, Eligible Card Members may purchase additional Delta Sky Club Visits at a per-Visit rate of $50 per person using the Card.
  • Receive four Delta Sky Club® One-Time Guest Passes each year when you fly Delta so you can share the experience with family and friends.
  • Enjoy complimentary access to The Centurion® Lounge when you book a Delta flight with your Reserve Card.
  • Receive $2,500 Medallion® Qualification Dollars each Medallion Qualification Year and get closer to Status with MQD Headstart.
  • Earn $1 Medallion® Qualification Dollar for each $10 of purchases made on your Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card in a calendar year and get a boost toward achieving elevated Medallion Status for next Medallion Year.
  • Receive a Companion Certificate on a Main Cabin round-trip flight within the U.S. and to Mexico, the Caribbean, or Central America each year after renewal of your Card. The Companion Ticket requires payment of the government-imposed taxes and fees of no more than $80 for round-trip domestic flights and no more than $250 for round-trip international flights (both for itineraries with up to four flight segments). Baggage charges and other restrictions apply. See terms and conditions for details.
  • $240 Resy Credit: When you use your Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card for eligible purchases with U.S. Resy restaurants, you can earn up to $20 each month in statement credits. Enrollment required.
  • $120 Rideshare Credit: Earn up to $10 back in statement credits each month after you use your Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card to pay for U.S. rideshare purchases with select providers. Enrollment required.

The main focus of supporting cards is to yield benefits on hotels and airlines you frequent the most or prefer.

If you’re taking a Delta flight with someone once a year, you could probably offset the annual fee with the main cabin companion certificate. Add in some checked bags, 15% off award flights, and there is a pathway to extracting more value than the annual fee.

Honestly, after the recent Delta program changes, this card is hard to justify paying the annual fee on an ongoing basis

  • Enjoy a Companion Certificate each year after renewal of your Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card. Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card

The biggest reason Delta loyalists would want either the business or personal SkyMiles Reserve card is Delta SkyClub access so if you can make use of the Resy and Rideshare credits you’re getting a ton of the annual fee back in statement credits. If you’re looking for a card that delivers club access, a domestic first class companion fare on renewal, the ability to earn a lot of MQMs, 15% off Delta award tickets, and more…this could be it.

Most people give this card a second look because of the Delta SkyClub + Centurion Lounge access when flying Delta. Personally, at this price point, the The Platinum Card® from American Express is a harder hitting card dollar for dollar even though the annual fee is more…you get more.

Where this card can actually make sense is in the free domestic roundtrip on account renewal. These are good for first class tickets, so if you’re taking at least one trip a year where you’d either want to, or normally, pay for 2 first class domestic flights, you could recoup the fee pretty easily.

  • Paul Davis July 6, 2022

I have an intersting question. My wife has Amex Business platinum card. We’ve decided it’s redundant and plan to cancel. We will call in to see if there are any great retention offers.

Annual fee was posted June 20 and bill is due July 15.

what happens if I use the $200 dell credits now, in July, and then close the card? Any ramifications? Any claw back issues?
    I have no idea

Thanks in advance for any advice

hi, I click on it but it only stated 75k points?

  • Ed June 19, 2022

Some of the Amex Platinum “Semi-Annual credits” shown above are actually annual credits. For example, the $200 hotel credit and $200 airline incidental credit are annual and expire in December, not June.

    • Miles June 19, 2022

Hey Ed, sorry for the confusion – the list is just all the credits expiring, monthly, semi annually, or annually. I just annotated the cards that had semi annual credits expiring

      • Michael December 27, 2022

Can you purchase a Saks GC for $50 and receive the credit?

        • Miles December 27, 2022

I’ve done this in store many times and it’s worked!

  • cakflyer May 15, 2022

The first half of the year is jan through end of JUNE. The second credit begins on july 1. The credit doesn’t expire end of this month (which is may) as of the most recent ‘post’ of this recycled information.

Very liberating to have cancelled my Amex Platinum after 25 years and no longer have to worry about this sort of thing or buying stuff I don’t need to rationalize the annual fee in my mind.

  • […] Don’t Forget Your Amex Statement Credits:  American Express has been very generous with various statement credits throughout their card lineup.  Most of them are extremely useful, so you shouldn’t have any issues using them.  Don’t forget to make the most of them. […]

  • Fidel July 25, 2020

I bought some shirts at SAKS on June 28 and July 2nd since they were having a sale. i got my credit for $50 for the different dates i purchased my shirts. total for the 2 shirts were $145, with the $100 credit and the sale of about %50 off and i only paid $45 bucks for 2 designer shirts…great deal!!

  • Daniel July 13, 2020

Does anyone know of a workaround with the cell phone credits if you use Verizon and have automatic drafting coming from your bank account? I have 5 lines and would lose $50 in credits/mo just to take advantage of paying the bill with my Amex Plat.

I tried buying accessories and a gift card, neither coded as needed to trigger the benefit.

    Thank you in advance.

Does buying e-gift cards online with AMEX Gold at the above listed restaurant websites trigger the credit?

  • Sajer Guy June 23, 2020
  • Carl WV June 23, 2020

This a little off topic, but related to the Amex Aspire Resort Credit. In late March my first full AF came due (first 4 months was pro-rated). I had seen a lot about Amex not liking you to keep a card less than a year. For that and other reason I paid the AF.

I called Amex and explained I could not use prior Resort Credit (RC) after cancelling some plans due to COVID-10 (and mentioned being 65). They said would extend the RC, I confirmed they were saying I would now have $500 RC available and they said yes,

Over the weekend I chatted with Amex and asked for my RC balance available. Their answer indicated they had not followed through. So I called customer service, That said they were now handling that type of situation with a $250 statement credit instead (no activity required). They said it would hit in about 5 days. They also mentioned I could use the NEW RC for restaurants. We’ll see if they follow through this time. I figure I should know by Friday.

Assuming they do follow through it will be only because I called, Others may be in a situation to try it, having had their card anniversaries earlier his year, and unused RC,
    Will advise..
